A 19-year-old Tracy resident died in a solo-vehicle crash on Mines Road outside Livermore in rural Alameda County on Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver was traveling in a white Ford Mustang in a rural area around 8 a.m. when he lost control of the car around a curve and careened off a steep hill into trees, where he became trapped.
Other vehicles were traveling with the victim and stopped upon witnessing the crash, but the occupants could not reach emergency responders because of the lack of cellphone service, CHP Officer Derek Reed said. They extricated the victim from the car and drove to an area with cell service, calling 9-1-1. Emergency responders arrived and took the victim to a trauma center, where he died.
Alcohol or substance use is not suspected in the crash, Reed said. The victim has not yet been identified.
