Stoneridge Shopping Center was a hotbed of criminal activity in the days surrounding Christmas, with 10 arrests, pending charges against two more and fake $100 bills passed.

In one incident on Dec. 23, three men and a teen boy were arrested at Macy’s Men’s in a scheme in which an employee was selling gift cards, allowing purchases to be made, and then returning the cards.

Joshua Benjamin Williams, 19, of Castro Valley, was arrested after a coworker reported that Williams’ cash register was short.

Video showed Williams activate a gift card, then head to an iPod vending machine, also at Macy’s Men’s, where he spent $329; a review of videos also showed that Williams took a $100 bill from his register, according to a police report.

He also assaulted loss prevention while being escorted out of the store and admitted to embezzling more than $3,000 from Macy’s in the last three weeks, the report said.

Another Castro Valley man, Angelo Cuizon, 18, was arrested in the same incident. The police report said he had a deal that gave Williams $50-$60 every time Cuizon stole shoes from the store

Also arrested were Jordan Tyler Eaton, 21, of Hayward and a 17-year old Hayward boy..

The juvenile went to Williams, who activated and gave him a gift card that the teen used to buy two pair of jeans, worth $58 apiece, and returned the card to Williams, according to the report. The teen had been banned from all Macy’s stores after a prior incident.

Eaton was arrested for giving Williams codes to open cash registers, the report said. Williams rang up a $400 gift card and gave it to Eaton, who knew it was fraudulent, but used it anyway in Newark, according to the report.

Williams was arrested for felony embezzlement, felony shoplifting and misdemeanor battery. Cuizon was arrested for felony shoplifting, and Eaton and the juvenile were arrested for misdemeanor theft.

The four were taken into custody at about 10:36 p.m. Dec. 23.

Elsewhere at the mall, four store workers are looking at embezzlement charges for stealing from their employers in separate incidents.

Dwayna Shania Stamps, 20, of Hayward was arrested at about 4:20 p.m. Dec. 27 for embezzling more than $5,000 from JC Penney in the 1500 block of Stoneridge Mall Road by giving unauthorized discounts to friends.

Shanika Nicole Robinson, 20, of Hayward, was arrested on a misdemeanor embezzlement count at about 9:50 p.m. Dec. 27 for making 23 unauthorized discounts totaling $302, also from JC Penney.

Felony embezzlement cases against two unnamed Nordstrom employees have been forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges. At about 5:13 p.m. Dec. 23, Nordstrom, in the 1600 block of Stoneridge Mall Road, reported the embezzlement of $707 and $697. Other information in the ongoing case was unavailable.

Two stores, the Guess Store and Aldo, reported receiving counterfeit $100 bills on Dec. 26; two bogus bills were passed at Aldo and one was passed at the Guess Store.

Also among those arrested was Myra Lorena Fontanillo-Lopez, 32, of Fremont for felony theft of eight items of clothing and two purses from Macy’s Women’s with a total value $1,200. Video surveillance showed Fontanillo-Lopez taking the items, a police report said. She was arrested at about 5:10 p.m. Dec. 27.

Four others were arrested on misdemeanor theft charges at the mall during Christmas week.

  1. Is the issue of minority youth crime taboo? You guys can’t discuss that the perpetrators of these felonies are (mostly) minority youths? Is that it? You have to call it “holiday crime” instead? Its holiday crime only in that its taking place during a holiday season. I don’t understand why large retailers continue to employ minority youth? They are really afraid they are going to lose more money in the inevitable greenmail suits than what the minorities are stealing from them, is that it? The irony here is that no matter what retailers do, they will be victimized by minority criminals – either by the antics of race baiters like Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, or by the thugs they represent.

  2. Yes, I agree alot of this is due to BART. We invite these sorts to come to our lovely mall.
I am glad this was published so we can be aware of who these people are and how they do this.

  3. Well, all I know is, that in my new-found mall-robbin’ career, I choose BART as my getaway car, every time. A good, brisk 11-minute escape walk from that phat Stoneridge easy-moneytown, and if I hit it juuuust right, and the train’s on-time, and I have the fare, and there are none of those pesky BART cops around … why, I can be in Fruitvale Station in just five stops and a half-hour. No sweat!

Look out, world — life of crime, here I come! BART and I’m there!

  4. Macy’s, JC Penney and Nordstrom need to rethink their hiring practices. In times past, they used to have higher caliber employees. Now it seems they are hiring much less qualified people, probably because they have become cheapskates. So, these stores are dealing with the consequences of their own greed. It is much less pleasurable to shop at Stoneridge these days because the sales clerks are not properly trained and so many of them have poor English skills. Plus, lots more thugs roaming around and trolling the parking lots.

  5. Tens of thousands of Americans/residents speak English with an accent. I find that delightful and would ask native born Americans to be appreciative and patient when encountering individuals who may be difficult to understand.

Macy’s, JC Penny, and Nordstrom’s might consider providing conversational business English classes for their employees.

Does anyone know if the above stores are unionized?

    just asking…

  6. …and just what difference would unionization have on theft??? cholo, are you admitting unions commit more crimes than harassing and lies to workers and lies in the press??

  7. Hey y’all..lets all just settle down and cool our fingers off a bit…let us be smarter than that which wastes such valuable tick’s and irreplacible toc’s off the unknown personal contracts we are fulfilling on Earth…utilizing the latest, greatest and fastest filler known to man/woman-kind..I will now “paste” what I have “cut” from some of the same debates in history that were already written so we can get back to enjoying some up close and personal hands-on-hugging-loving-giving a damn type attention to our future leaders to keep them from making these headlines someday (yes even that saggy pants punk of a son needs love!)

  8. The mall used to be a pleasant place before the construction of the BART station right across the street. Now there are dozens of people who, well…obviously aren’t from around here. I can’t tell you how many young men I’ve passed in Stoneridge who have their pants around their knees practically and reek of marijuana, not saying that Pleasanton kids have not portrayed these foul descriptions. BART across from Stoneridge has made it too easy for hoodlums from Oakland, Richmond, and Hayward to come to our mall and commit theft and vandalism.

  9. There are numbers crimes that have been committed by locals:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/news/10251621/Teenager-charged-with-murder-after-boastful-tweets.html His father is also guilty of crimes.

There’s even a guy who murdered his parents. Not to mention other nasty crimes by sex predators…quite a few live in Plutonia!

Lemmie see…as I recall, there was even an Irish Catholic priest who exposed to the cops in Oakland.

    hmmmmmmmmmmm…let me do a bit more research…OK?

  10. 30 Year Pleasanton Resident,

I actually laugh when I see these kids with their pants down below their butts as they do not know where the practice originated and if they did they would not wear them that low.

The practice started and still exists in the California prison system. It is a signal to other prisoners that the person wearing their pants low is willing to take it in the behind in return for protection from other prisoners. In essence a prison sex slave.

  11. I don’t find that the implication of wearing ones trousers in prison means that one is in “essence a prison sex slave”.

The brutality and sexually transmitted diseases is nothing to laugh about.

Unless it is, please explain what is so humorous.
