Why blame Obama on BART to Pleasanton?

Original post made by Nancy S., Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Nov 20, 2012

For all of you idiots that blame all the crime in Pleasanton on BART, and that blame BART on President Obama, please read this link from the BART website.

Web Link

It clearly shows that the story of "BART" starts in 1946. The formed Commission advised, in its final report in 1957, "that any transportation plan must be coordinated with the area's total plan for future development. Since no development plan existed, the Commission prepared one itself. The result of their thoroughness is a master plan which did much to bring about coordinated planning in the Bay Area, and which was adopted a decade later by the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG).The Commission's least-cost solution to traffic tie-ups was to recommend forming a five-county rapid transit district, whose mandate would be to build and operate a high-speed rapid rail network linking major commercial centers with suburban sub-centers."

Construction initally began in June of 1964. Monday, September 11, 1972 was the first day of revenue service. September 27, 1972 then President Nixon rode on BART. On Oct. 25, 1991 (I believe Bush Sr. in office) groundbreaking took place for the Dublin/Pleasanton station. May 10, 1997 (President Clinton in office) the Dublin/Pleasanton station offically opens.

These are the facts, there is no conspiracy going on. Obama not to blame for BART coming to Pleasanton. PERIOD.

RIGHT ON, NANCY! I tell ya, the posts on this web site are AWESOME! It's about time someone put the blame-BART-on-Obama crowd in their place. That's all we hear lately. "Obama is to blame for BART!" Anyone with the sense of a mosquito knows that Bush is to blame!

Keep up the good work!

There is no "blame" to be labeled to any President. The idea of a "BART" started in '46. By the time it came to fruition and continued to expand, there were many presidents. My point is it is ludacrious to blame the POTUS for BART.

Now don't get me started on how we cannot blame BART for the crime in Pleasanton either...

The posts are annoying, aren't they? It's someone's idea of a joke. And unfortunately they're probably getting their jollies off the fact that you made a new thread about it. I wouldn't be surprised if Darwin above is the person behind those posts. Might be better to ignore such blatantly absurd posts.

Sorry ladies but perhaps you could point out where the idiots "blame BART on President Obama." There's plenty of reasons to criticize him without having to resort to a stretch like that.

There's a certain irony in the person who selects Darwin as his name to be so unable to process a few simple facts.

@Darwin - the following was posted to a thread regarding the
man who robbed a store at Hacienda Crossings. It is identical to posts on threads regarding crime in Pleasanton. I just get tired of reading how ignorant these people are (and if they are just trolling, it just makes them look stupid)and thought I would share the facts.

Just one word for you. BART to Pleasanton. Thanks for nothing Obama!

If course the liberals will say this has nothing to do with BART or Obama, like they always do."

That is a very interesting website about BARTD history. Thanks for the link, Nancy.
Unfortunately it is a "puff piece" trying to make BARTD look good.
Q. Where is the information about the BARTD train fire under the bay, that injured so many and killed an Oakland Firefighter? How long can you breathe under water?
The January 17, 1979 fire completely destroyed four cars, and the rest were suspected of structural heat damage and removed from service.
It did illustrate that the smoke evacuation system was woefully inadequate, and the interiors of the cars were plastic that burned fast and gave off copious toxic smoke.
Firefighters had known about the plastic and many building and exiting fire concerns, but BARTD refused to address their issues. They said BART answered only to the California PUC, (who was totally not up to the task of regulation.)
After that Fire, Oakland Fire Chief Wm Moore declared the tube and BART a "fie hazard" and prohibited running trains under the Bay.
At first, BART claimed he did not have the authority, but the PUC would not override him, so the under bay tube was out of service for months.
Under this pressure, BART eventually agreed to a long program to replace the interiors of the cars- over several years- and to fix many fire related features that never worked before such as the ventilation, and fire standpipes and pumps that were designed wrong.

More info at:
Web Link

Also it completely ignores:
the Livermore station, promised but not built
parking at Dublin (which was not treated as the end of the line) ,
the impractical A cars, and
the never functional automatic computer driven train design.

@What about the big BARTD

The website doesn't list every detail that has happened, you also dont see the Oscar Grant shooting, etc. I couldn't even find info on when the 2nd Dublin/Pleasanton station was approved or opened. My point was to shut the trap of all these posters (posers) that continuely make comments sarcastically thanking Obama for bringing BART & crime to Pleasanton.

I found it fasinating the vision surfaced in the 40's.

Thanks for your response, Nancy!

Whatever Obama is guilty of, it does not include the BARTD, yet.
Maybe he could help get it to Livermore?

I found it interesting that the web site mentioned the automatic train running system, but not that it never worked.

Who the h*ll is blaming BART on Obama? Obama is worthy of being blamed for many, many more serious offenses. Have you loons gone nuts, or is this another diversionary tactic to get people's focus away from the real ways that Obama is hosing this country?

@reed peed.

Regular posters know the culprits I am talking anout. Whenever there is a story on crime, you get posters blaming the crime in ptown on BART, and for Obama bringing BART to ptown (i guess because the new station opened while he was in office). They are ludicrus statements, but they need to find something to blame on him.

Happy Thanksgiving to all PW readers and posters, real and made up.

@jake. ,That article had nothing to do with Pleasanton. BART got federal stimulas money for pittsburg/antioch line. I rest my case. BART came to ptown long before Obama got into office.

Don't miss out on the discussion!
