CA Democrats breaking down the safeguards of democracy

Original post made by jimf01, another community, on Sep 17, 2013

Three blatant attempts over the past few months to make government less transparent and decrease the security of our elections. Begs the question, why would one party want to take these measures. Obviously, each of these strengthens their grip on power.

1 - 3rd District Court of Appeals found the Secretary of State had unconstitutionally placed Gov Brown’s tax initiative Prop 30 at the top of the ballot

2 - Governor Brown and Democrats in the Legislature passed a budget trailer bill, SB 71, which included a provision to defund California’s Public Records Act, removing the requirement for cities to provide information to the public. This would have greatly harmed public engagement, impact the ability of the press and private citizens to find out what government is doing

3 - AB 110 was signed by the Governor defunds ballot security in several key areas – including the mandated second stage review of provisional ballots, and updating county absentee voter lists

In Jimbo's own words from a previous post: "Residents of Pleasanton will be glad to learn that residents east of the Altamont Pass, in Tracy and beyond would no longer have a voice in their congressional representation, and vice versa, as in almost every draft version, the natural boundary of the hills east of Livermore divide the redrawn districts."

This has come to pass, which leads me to wonder why Jimbo still posts here in Pleasanton rather than in the county of his residency? If we're supposedly so pleased about political separation from you, why can't you just leave us alone?

What an outrage!! How dare these thieving Sacto legislators and Governor defund the Public Records Act. Bay Area News Group (Co Co Times) spent several years and much money, including Ca Supreme Court, to win the right for US TAXPAYERS to KNOW WHAT WE PAY OUR EMPLOYEES!!! That was a hard fought victory for us to have that right. Now these arrogant, greedy, and ungrateful employees of ours
want us to not have the right to who and what we pay to serve us,

Oops! Sorry, the predictable "controversial" pot-stirring bored me right to sleep.

Did I miss any good trolling?

These jerks keep missing the point....they work for US. WE are the employers !!! We have the RIGHT to this information....the CA SUPREME COURT RULED, we, the taxpaying public has the right to know WHO and WHAT we PAY !!!!! How dare this union owned legislature and the GOVERNOR decided otherwise...the Ca SUPREME COURT HAS RULED !!! WE must take it to the streets. I REFUSE to PAY. I have the right to know. KEEP this before the taxpaying public EVERY DAY!

Don't you want the RIGHT TO KNOW what is happening with your tax $$ and our employees in Sacto legislature ???? The Supreme Court gave us that right, and this governor and this Dem Legislature is trying to sign away our right to know.
YOU SHOULD be screaming to KEEP that right.

I don't believe that there are any sure bets to any democracy.

It seems to me that MOST Americans do not want to take much if any responsibility to do what it takes to preserve this country.

FYI Trudy, these laws are for all in this STATE, apparently you don't know that. As I said above, CA Supreme Court ruled WE, the people have the RIGHT to know about OUR EMPLOYEES we pay!!! Shame on Brown for wanting to HIDE the gifts he and his Dem legislature give to public unions...His duty is the stand with all taxpaying California citizens.
No surprise the Dem Secy of State broke the ballot law to favor Brown's TAX measure...more money for them. They know many of their voters aren't bright, don't even know the topic, but can follow 'just vote YES on on the first item called 30'...home free. Sort of like why Obama's campaign gave FREE CELL phones to all in his rallies in Chicago, so all could be called on election today, saying Today is the day, go vote.
No surprise Brown wants to reduce ballot security & review when checking the 'provisional' (questionable) ballots...
This is CA.
