Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, for example, lashed out at Republicans and other freedom seekers after the defeat of gun-control legislation in the Senate yesterday, deriding them as “gun-control Darwinists.”
In an appearance on The Rachel Maddow Show, the Democratic senator told Maddow that Republicans have “made it clear that they are just kind of gun-control Darwinists at this point who just think that we should give a whole bunch of guns to the good guys and to the bad guys, and let them shoot it out, and hope that the good guys win,” he said. “That’s their agenda.”
Well, first of all, any idiot knows that Darwin never wrote on guns. In fact, he wasn't even an American.
Second, only an idiot would think that background checks on gun buyers would somehow turn back time and save the kids that were killed at Newtown. Newtown has already occurred, so why bother with that -- unless you're a useless party using Newtown as a prop to indoctrinate American freedom seekers with anti-gun nonsense?
Third, yes it is true that guns in the home are more likely to be used on self or a family member than on a criminal trespasser or govt agent sent to take your gun away, but that's our constitutional right. Any effort to make shooting oneself or one's relatives more difficult is just another expression of the Nanny State.
The Senate yesterday gave President Obama the first major legislative defeat of his second term, voting down by a 54–46 margin a compromise that would have expanded background checks. Obama used the occasion to whine about 90% of the American public supporting background checks. Even a blabbering Democrat should know that polls showed only 85% of Americans favoring background checks. Which makes Obama the liar he is.
