Lavish Lifestyle in the White House: Another Round of Golf Anyone?

Original post made by Jeff Davis, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Apr 8, 2013

What seems stuck in the craw of millions of patriotic Americans is Obamas’ 1 percent lifestyle — the endless ski and beach vacations for the couple and their daughters, including the president’s 118th round of golf while in office.

“My kids asked me a couple of years ago why we never went on family vacations,” states patriot Steve Gibson. “I told them that we had to pay all of our expenses first and there wasn’t any money left over for a family vacation. Then I keep seeing … stories about the Obamas taking trips everywhere and I don’t know what to think. I have been laid off twice in the past year and am currently in the job search mode again. I just don't understand why the Obamas think they deserve to vacation on my tax dollar.”

Patriot Ron Kaye agrees that “this is not about those pampered girls, it’s about the money, which looks worse and worse every month. But the Obamas don’t care what it ‘looks’ like. They ARE the first family and by G-d they’re going to go when and where they want on as many planes as it takes; taxpayers be damned. Can anyone spell uppity?”

Patriot Charlene Sanders echoes Mr. Kaye — with a Marie Antoinette twist. “He doesn’t give a damne' about us. He’s the president and by god he’s going to do what he wants … to heck with whatever anybody else thinks. Seems like a ‘Let them eat cake’ attitude to me. And then his uppity wife tells us how to eat in a healthful way. What crust! And coming from someone who was lower crust until they oozed their way into the Oval Office."

White House watcher Barry Kahn juxtaposes the first couple’s lavish lifestyle with the president’s decision to cancel all White House tours. “Their extravagance boggles my mind. Why is it that they can get away with this stuff? The White House is closed to tours by American born citizens for supposed security reasons and meanwhile some posers from Kenya can globe trot with security in tow and the media says nothing?”

Patriot Scott Hord is flat-out disheartened. “I used have to some measure of respect for the Office of the President, until that ... well, regardless of who was in command, but this current President and his family putting on airs has truly left a bad taste in my mouth.”

Constitution reader Jason Lockwood also sounds fed up. “You know this Obama high-steppin', jazz-listinin', high falutin’ lifestyle? I’m continually amazed that our country continually allows this narcissistic family to live such lavish lifestyles at the expense of the rest of the hard working ‘Joes.’ I’m printing off a copy of my comment here and sending it in with my quarterly payment to the IRS. That'll show 'em.”

Surely, the author if this article, Joseph Curl, did not intend for you to copy and paste without attribution or even a link to the Washington Times where it appeared. As an editor at the Drudge Report, though, Mr. Curl's opinions are biased and often verge on hate speech. Why would you present his words (with a few additions of your own, such as "Patriot" So-and-So) here as your own?

If you think you can do the job better, Jeff Davis, throw your hat in the ring. But, please, do not stand on the sidelines mocking and disapproving the president and his family without at least acknowledging the incredible difficulty of the job he has been elected twice now to perform.

Hello Neighbor,

Yes, Washington Times, Drudge Report, Weasel Zippers have all presented variants of this piece - all popular sites where Enquiring conservative minds search out the Truth. I think there is much more going on in the piece, and thus my own contributions in order to reveal the rather poorly disguised 'point of view' that's being pushed. It seems you missed it, so perhaps it needs to be made even clearer.

Variants of this 'story', including my own, emphasize that the Obama family does not deserve to be in the White House. Bush took far more days off than Obama, and Bush's daughters ... well, you do remember them don't you? But the gist of this piece in all its variant forms is that the Bush family deserved the vacation time, while the Obamas (for rather obvious reasons, if you're a conservative who reads the Moony-owned Wash Times, the Drudge drudges, or Weasel Zippers) do not deserve the vacation time. Restated: when the Bushes or Romneys go to Martha's Vineyard, they're simply hobnobbing with their own; when the Obamas go there, the presupposition among many (probably most) conservatives is that they're being uppity. That this piece and its variants has circulated through so many conservative publications, I think, speaks volumes as to the level of 'moral consciousness' of so many conservatives. It expresses the very core of their being.

So, is your post intended to be sarcasm? Because, seriously, "...the Obama family does not *deserve* to be in the White House" is an absurd statement given he is the duly elected president of the United States and the White House is the official residence of the president.

Who cares what the 1% possibly think about the most powerful man in the world? And to presuppose what "many (probably most) conservatives" collectively think is a waste of time as it is far from being a homogenous group of citizens, especially in "the very core of their being."

Dear Neighbor,

You've again misread the article. There is no reference to what the 1% thinks; rather, reference is to the Obama family's "1% lifestyle."

You do have one thing right: Obama was elected to two terms in office. Congratulations on making that stretch.

I don't think exposing an unstated bias of conservatives in this country is a waste of time. You can pretend they aren't a homogeneous lot, but polls and voting records would seem to indicate otherwise. My guess is that you pretend a lot of things. Your problem probably arises when you're unable to sort out what you pretend from what is real. Knowing how to read is a prerequisite in this regard. Unfortunately, this is a skill you seem not to have mastered.

It seems that public discourse without resorting to personal attacks is a skill which you seem not to have mastered, Jeff.

Let's all get together and construct a doctrine that outlines which jobs and which people deserve more vacation time.
