I went to Raley's and what did I see?

Original post made by neighbor, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Nov 8, 2012

I went to Raley's and what did I see?

A strike of course. A bunch of people (even though it's on the meat dpt on strike) standing around outside with signs - I didn't see people I knew and I'm at Raley's all the time. Apparently a big part of this is about keeping health benefits after 65 - why should this be an issue? There is Medicare after 65.

Hard working employees inside doing their best, working hard, smiling and kind. Incredibly helpful, trying to save their business and remain competitive. It was nice inside, a good vibe.

Great deals - you can get free eggs, 2 liter drink, chips and an avadodo for free + $5 for next time if you spend $20 on other things! Only today I think.

Wow! Free eggs and other stuff. Quite a promo! There must be a lot at stake for Raley's. I brought home a pound of union-sliced balony the other day and half of it wasn't sliced and the half that was had what looked like human blood on it. I said right then and there that I'd rather eat a scab off a scab laborer than purchase another union-made item, ever. And I mean it. Also, I'm a smoker and I vote!!!

Good! Thanks for the update. Wouldn't it be cool if
Raleys did record breaking business because of this?
I would love to see it backfire on these troublemaking
ingrates. These outsiders who are coming into our town
to try and strong arm us need a message loud and clear.

What you saw was a bunch of well-intentioned people that have no clue about business. Their pension is made possible by the profits the company makes by serving its customers. The Pleasanton Raley's has to already be feeling the pressure from the new Safeway and will soon be feeling the competitive pressure from the WalMart market. If Raley's is going to compete, it will have to do so on service (not selection and not price). It is insane to chase your customers away to another store. How sad that they buy into the union BS, when the strike is so obviously bad for the store that employees them.

Thank God there's a strike at Raleys! Since the union workers won their long fight against the Kastlewood Kountry Klub, Tea Baggers haven't had any unions to bash. This gives them something to do.

Thank you, Raleys meatcutters!

And yes, I predict the union will win. Organized labor is on the move in California. Get used to it.

Free bananas, bread, orange juice and chips today. For those of you who want to support this local store and employees (other than butchers) and who hope it can survive.

They've been closing stores in California and then all employees lose their jobs. Is that what we really want? I guess we can always go to the Walmart instead. I will support Raley's.

Is there anyone who hasn't been affected by the high cost of healthcare? Why should the Union care about healthcare after 65 when the employee qualifies for medicare? Unless there is a good explanation I'm crossing the picket line.

Are you SURE Raley's was giving away food? Because otherwise that's known as something we call "shoplifting". And that's very very very wrong. Especially if you get caught.

The only employees on strike at Raley's are the meat department and maybe Deli. Everyone else working there is non-union. The free food has nothing to do with strike. It's called REWARDS!!I know this because I went to a Raley's today!!! So come down p-town shoppers..
