I will relate my two experiences with TGIF. One: I was sitting near with a view towards the kitchen. The cooks were pulling out frozen dinners and popping them into the micro wave like gang busters. Conclusion: the food was terrible. Two: I'm sitting at the bar with my wife one early evening. The bar stunk to high heaven. The place was dirty, smelly as the bar tenders did the least they could to pour the drinks and serve unappetizing appetizers. Conclusion: filthy ambiance.
Morale of the story: people do not like microwave food in a smelly place. OUT OF BUSINESS.
I'm sorry some people had bad experiences, but they must have been doing something right most of the time to have stayed in business for 17 years! We went there every few weeks for drinks and appetizers and found it pleasant, and are sorry it closed. Especially sorry for their staff who presumably didn't get much notice. We were there just a week ago so we believe it closed on the 25th or 26th. A web search turned up a local realtor website that made a reference back in last November saying that TGI Friday's would be moving out of its location, and that "you won’t believe the new suitor" but that it wasn't a restaurant and gave a hint: "Despite being the biggest in the Nation they can’t seem to shake the blue…" I don't know what that means, and since it has been six months since then, it could be anybody (or nobody) by now. If anyone knows anything more about what's likely to come in, that would be nice to know.
I was very sad to hear of the closing. Many long time employees lost their jobs that they enjoyed and had little notice. TGIF did what they could to give back to the community and I hope people can appreciate that. I drove by last week and they were tearing everything out, most of the wood paneling and all of the kitchen stainless...I'm doubtful another restaurant will be going in.
Thank you TGI Fridays for the 10 wonderful years I worked there (95-05) bartending, I met so many wonderful people (including my husband)and have memories that will last a lifetime.
*and they do not microwave frozen meals...ever. Steaming fresh veggies, yes, they did do that.
about time it's over...some of the food was frozen and thawed and many places has a pecular odor...stinky and sticky...good riddance!
