Original post made by Sgt. Mike Tryphonas, Another Pleasanton neighborhood, on Aug 28, 2007

Enrollment is continuing for the Fall Pleasanton Police Citizens Academy. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 9:30pm beginning on September 6th and will run for 14 sessions with the week of Thanksgiving off

The Citizens Academy is a class room setting with a mixture of lecture, demonstrations and learn to do activities. The goals of the program are to create closer partnerships with the public, explain law enforcement procedures, and to discuss the importance of public involvement in the policing process. This is a great opportunity for the community to get involved and find out about how their Police Department operates. Topics of instruction include Community Policing, Patrol Procedures, Radio Communications, SWAT, Narcotics/Vice Investigations, Crime Prevention, Traffic Enforcement, K-9’s, Evidence Collection, Use of Force, Animal Services and DARE. This is a free course and the only commitment is your time and an open mind.

The program is open to adults only. Applicants will be carefully screened and participants must live or work in the City of Pleasanton.

Applications are available at the front counter of the Pleasanton Police Department, by calling Sgt. Mike Tryphonas at (925) 931-5169 or by sending an email to Applications should be in by September 4th.
