Take it from somebody who worked loss prevention for the better part of a decade: there is nothing sold at any store that is worth your life to protect. Home Depot isn't going to comfort your widow, or teach your son how to drive, or walk your daughter down the aisle. They can afford some stolen merch. I hope this poor guy fully recovers and the scumbags who shot him do hard time upriver.

Armed folks committing robberies at stores where we shop. Great to hear that the suspects were arrested. Will we hear anything from the Alameda County District Attorney's Office?

I was over at the Home Depot today and saw that it was closed. An officer at the exit of the store, a camera man shooting film outside. I didn't expect it was a shooting. You just don't expect someone trying to steal something from the local hardware store, is carrying a gun and may use it. If it were a bank, I would expect it! Our first instincts are to stop someone when you see them doing something wrong and there was a time when it was an honorable thing to do.
It's so hard to turn the other cheek. The criminal mind is aware that if they have a gun or there is threat of a gun you will let them do as they please. Where do we draw the line?
So sick of all the senseless shootings of innocent men, women and children. Every day there seems to be more and more guns intruding into our lives, in our neighborhoods, where we shop and in our schools...
I hope the injured person is OK and does not feel stupid for trying to do the right thing. Your instincts were honorable. Things and property can be replaced but I hope he still feels empowered to stop someone, if they are being attacked by someone else.
Can't imagine being attacked and watching people look and walk away from me ...for fear they may be shot by my attacker. This just makes me feel so sad and sick to my stomach.

The good guys have no guns and the bad guys committing theft walk around with them.
We'll never see a mugshot of the criminals, but we can't complain because we vote the same time and time again. No wonder people are fleeing SF and Chicago.

What are we going to hear from Pamela Price? Complaints about an "epidemic of gun violence", excuses/rationalizations why the items in question were stolen, and "equitable" plea bargains (slaps on the wrists) for the perpetrators.

You do know that the victim died?

A little crazy to think that a simple change in the law that was launched almost 10 years ago ( 2014 Proposition 47) has lead to a staggering increase in crime and theft. Sure corporations can "afford it"... until they start closing those stores... stores that pay employees, offer health and retirement benefits, and tax revenue.
Who ever thought shoplifting would turn into murder... and yet here we are.

My heart goes out to this man's fiancé, his family and his friends. By the sounds of it, and his actions in life, he was a really good guy. My Condolences ~
And to ALL gun victims and their families, loved ones and friends, my condolences.
I really do think it's time for companies that offer their services to the public, to HAVE to put up METAL detectors, Video services at entries/exits, POLICE to work these areas, because they are the only ones equipped and trained, to deal with those who do carry guns illegally.
It may seem like overkill but, as we have found out, "Times have changed." We have come to the point that we can't wait for others to take charge in the political arena. Lives are being lost and as individuals we are helpless to help ourselves and others around us without possibly being shot ourselves.
The world has changed...and we need to change along with it.

At first notice yesterday from the Weekly, it was not known that he had died. This is a followup report.

If we all just stand aside and let people rob us, then we are fools and sheep. We need to strengthen our laws to make property crimes felonies again and start putting people in jail. Three strikes and you are OUT OUT OUT!!!! Let's not blame the victim. Why even have security if their only job is to watch. I'm sure this guy was disgusted like the rest of us. Keep you comments that he did the wrong thing to yourself. All these people looting stores are simply there threatening to kill. I'm so sorry for him and his fiance and his family. Let's do something about it. His parents raised him right.

Of course we will hear from Pamela Price. She will tell us how awful that murderer's childhood was and how we should forgive them, put them into some nice taxpayer funded housing, provide them money and give them a whole new start on life. There is no crime, including murder, that warrants jail time in Pamela Price's world.
The only people worse than these murderers are those who enable them to continue killing while avoiding any punishment for their crimes. Hello Pamela, look in the mirror.
