Closing the restaurant was a regrettable move. Wente wines are not regional leaders; Napa is too close and has significantly better wines. But the food at Wente had always been worth it. Now, they’re just not competitive. They greatly overestimated how good their wines are, or whether they should be the sole draw.
It was always impressive that they were once humble enough to have a broad selection of truly good wines from other producers at the restaurant and didn’t force their own wines on the diner.
I guess that’s gone.
