Multiple law enforcement units staged on the east side of the Las Positas BLVD . bridge, they have a drone in the air on the Valley Trails and the Arroyos.

Can someone explain to me that if the person listed as the armed and dangerous Jeremy Castleberry roaming Pleasanton is wanted for attempted murder and rape according to the East Bay Times Web Link , then why weren't the nearby schools to I-680 and West Last Positas Blvd, like Donlon Elementary, locked down while the search was going on? And I understand the search is still going on because he hasn't been found, yes?

Also, why does the Pleasanton Police say he is wanted for identity theft, burglary, and forgery when in fact he appears to be the same person the East Bay Times said a few days ago was wanted for rape, kidnapping, and attempted murder?

So he was in custody on the 10th. in Santa Cruz on attempted murder, and I guess he posted the $375k bail? Was he a fugitive that escaped?

I think he posted bail, but that is just a guess, then stole a car in Santa Cruz but I am not sure when, and was spotted on Stoneridge Drive this morning. It is unclear how long he has been in Pleasanton.

He is probably hiding out in the arroyo tunnels or someone's tool shed in the neighborhoods around 680 and Hopyard. I'm would think that he is still in the area since no one has captured him. Maybe they should use thermal cameras with drones and helicopters once it gets dark in order to find him.

Everyone in our neighborhood is concerned that he will surface after dark, try to steal another car, or cause some calamity.

PP, there have been four publicized incidents in Pleasanton in recent years, three ending in the deaths of those interacting with the police. Please do not make light of what any of these families went through—are still going through—will always go through.

I certainly hope this man is apprehended, alive, and is able to face the courts to bring justice to those he has apparently wronged, be it a murder or car theft or anything else.

Your ref to our police is out of place.

I am not defending this man, SS. Everyone deserves their day in court—all sides of the equation. I support our police, but not necessarily all of their actions. And even at that, I’ve said the police should have all the tools they require to preserve life—theirs, any victims, and often (not always) the perpetrator

Oh please Kathleen, this is a bad guy and your only worry is that he gets caught alive so the liberal justice system can release him in short order. Why do we worry about the bad people that bring fear into our lives as evidenced by the other posts in the forum. If you break the law and then do something really stupid when the police are present you take the chance of getting shot. Maybe you live, maybe you die. Such is the life of a criminal!! They sometimes make stupid choices and they pay for it, they don't think like the majority of the population. There can only be one "boss" at a crime scene and that is the guy with the badge. In each of the cases you reference the bad guy didn't do as he was told. If you do as directed by the police then everyone will leave without injury. Time to quit coddling these criminals.

I know I'll get a bunch of reply's that I'm out of touch with today's world, which may be true since I prefer the world of law and order that was in place 20 years ago.

CM, the short answer in those cases is . . . they couldn’t comply.

I don’t want bad people released either.

Kathleen, I'm not sure exactly the cases that you are referring to, but with all due respect I think that they all had a chance to comply to commands but chose not to for whatever reason. I find it hard to believe that the police shot someone just for kicks since shooting a human being takes a huge toll on the officer that did it. Deadly force is a last resort! There is always more to it.

And you need to understand mental illness, CM. The cases were all people in crisis. The one who lived hid in a basement and the police left him until he came out. It was in this paper. I think he was a bail bondsman?

Not everyone was shot and I don’t believe any officer was malicious. It’s a high pressure situation. There are tools for it; there is training. It’s a matter of deescalation. And I don’t imply that is easy.

Look, I am concerned that the police for some reason significantly downplayed the nature of this guy's crimes by saying he had outstanding warrants for identity theft and forgery etc. But a little more than two weeks ago the East Bay Times reported that Castleberry, a Hayward resident, was arrested for attempted murder, rape, and kidnapping, and he has a rap sheet a mile long.

Everyone needs to be wary of this person. I am concerned he is going to carjack someone in Pleasanton to steal another vehicle. If he is armed, considering he was just arrested for attempted murder a couple of weeks ago, who knows what tragedy could happen?

How this thread digressed into talking about something other than apprehending this dangerous career criminal is beyond me.

This thread got sidetracked by PP's remark of MENTAL BREAK

KR is correct in all her comments & observations

Aren't we still waiting for all the video to be released for PPD last encounter which ended in death?

Also waiting for the body cam video of PPD encounter with Shannon Estill

Also waiting for the body cam video of PPD encounter with John Demming Jr...Oh, I forgot, the Body cams were on, until they turned them off just before killing John Demming Jr.

Mental Illness is a serious National epidemic and PP should not be making such a flippant comment.

Back to the original topic of the thread, the Pleasanton Police also did not seem to actually provide a detailed description of the person they are seeking in any press release I have seen. Arrest records say he is 5 foot 6 inches tall and that he has blonde hair and blue eyes, i.e., Web Link

I too would appreciate an update on the actual topic.

No Kathleen, I don't need to understand mental illness. That is a liberal talking point and I may be a lot of things but a progressive liberal I am not. I need to understand what poses a risk to me, my family and the community. If my family member was attacked by a person, mentally ill or otherwise, it is still an attack. Being mentally ill is not an defense in MY opinion. If you have a family member that has mental issues, then get them the help they need before they commit a crime or do something stupid. If you as a family can't/won't get them the help they need, what happens next is on you, not society.

If you need a description of the suspect just look at his mug shot in the article.

@Kathleen Ruegsegger,

Thank you once again for being the voice of reason on these forums. Sorry this thread got sidetracked by "Pleasanton Parent's" childish comment.

@CM,

Ignorance is nothing to be proud of. And, by the way, mental illness is a Republican talking point, or haven't you been paying attention to the debates on background checks for gun purchases?

It’s a human talking point. Nothing to do with political leanings. I’m not going to rehash the cases.

I fully expect you to defend yourself, your family, your possessions, and your neighbors if it comes to that.

I saw the suspect’s photo; I’m wondering if he’s still at large.

Bob, You may not agree with my point of thought, but I'm far from ignorant.
You are trying to connect two different issues with a very thin string. What we are talking about is on scene actions taken by police against someone that is a threat to the safety of others. The background checks may be a possible deterrent to mentally ill persons (along with members of extremist groups, gang members....) from obtaining a weapon. With so many weapons floating around on the secondary/black markets I think it will takes decades to have an impact.

Kathleen, I think it is safe to say we will never see the world through the same lens. I strongly believe that anyone that is a threat needs to be dealt with by the proper force necessary and sometimes that is deadly force. Deadly force should be a last resort and not the first but sometimes it goes from zero to a 100 in a snap of the fingers.

Transparency, nothing. DA has made no announcements.

CM, proper force is exactly the point. Two of the four were unarmed for certain; one may have had a fake, but realistic looking, gun (apparently—I don’t have all that info). The bondsman was unarmed I believe, and lived. Proper force should rarely mean death. Especially for anyone unarmed. And going from zero to 100 when you have all the power, and multiple people at your beck and call, should mean there is never, ever a snap of the fingers.

We've just updated our story to indicate that Castleberry still remains at-large as of this afternoon. Schlehuber confirmed today that the stolen vehicle was initially identified to police by one of the new automated license plate readers installed in Pleasanton. Thanks for the input.

Kathleen, You have never been there yet you have all the answers. Waiting 30 seconds or even less may not be an option. You make an assumption that there is an officer on every coroner with nothing else to do but wait for an officer needs help call. Your closest backup may be 4 mins away, that is a long time! Unarmed means nothing, its the real threat that counts. How would you feel as a female if a 6-3 220 pound guy came at you with just his fists saying he was going to kill you and starts to pummel you?. Or how about a 5-3 120 pound female coming at you with a pencil wedged in her hand like a shiv wanting to do you harm. My point is there are a lot of things that need to be decided in a split second by those that we trust to enforce our laws. The police get my support over the bad guy any day of the week. Don't do stupid things when around the police and bad things won't happen to you. Almost all shootings would stop if the criminals would just follow the directions of the police in high tension situations. Running away is not a good things to do, it only increases the odds of the ending not being a pleasant one for the bad guy.

I told you we will never see the world the same way.

I am also concerned that the two people on video caught kicking in the door in the Vintage Hills neighborhood have yet to be caught.

I and many others a couple of hours ago received a post/email from Nextdoor entitled "Murdered!" First of all, to use that title with all of the crime going on is really irresponsible. Secondly, I really think that it is wrong for city of Pleasanton resources to be deployed to "investigate" someone who used a can of hornet/wasp spray to kill some bees (what the poster referred to as "murder). Seriously, doesn't someone have the right to use Raid these days to kill bees in their own yard? And to see that the ex-mayor wants people to call the city and start some sort of investigation? This is ridiculous. All available city resources should be out looking for Castleberry and trying to track down real criminals like the ones that tried to break down the doors in Vintage Hills. Pulling personnel off the streets to investigate someone who used a bug spray to get rid of bees is absolutely absurd given all the real crime that is happening in this city.

I worry the Bauer videos may not be released, due to their nature.

Hopefully PPD can prioritize protecting the citizens of Pleasanton (even when having a "bad day"), and the prevention and investigation of "real crimes", rather than minor traffic violations, and we should probably all be more concerned about human life than that of bees.

Jeremy Castleberry is scum of the Earth!! He not only Kidnapped and beat his recent ex girlfriend but he raped her and threatened to hurt her family and then the Santa Cruz Police department release him a few nights later saying that they don't have enough evidence to hold him and then this happens in Pleasanton?! Blame law enforcement if something else happens and innocent people get hurt!! Our system is so corrupt and let rapists, Woman and child abusers walk every day and we are tired of it!! When These scumbags start dieng don't wonder why it's all happening and why the streets are taking things into their own hands. You guys don't protect anyone but higher class people!! Racism, there is not any Equality here in California! This is not the land of the free but it is the land of the lost!! Rest In Pieces Jeremy Castleberry!!
