The Pleasanton school board plans to announce the district’s new superintendent at its meeting tonight.
The meeting will not be broadcast live on Tri-Valley Television, but will be videotaped for showing at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2 p.m. Saturday on Channel 28.
The Dublin City Council meeting has tonight’s time slot reserved for its regular meetings.
The announcement comes after the board discussed its choices of finalists with members of a board-selected community committee of nine individuals.
The board conducted interviews for a third day Friday in closed session meetings and then talked over those interviews that afternoon.
The district has been searching for a new superintendent since former superintendent Parvin Ahmadi resigned in May to become Castro Valley’s superintendent. In the meantime, former Amador Valley High School Principal Jim Hansen has been serving as the interim superintendent.
Pleasanton Unified started its search in November when it hired superintendent search firm McPherson & Jacobson.
The community committee was made up of a district administrator, a principal, a member of the teacher’s union, a member of the classified employee union and five residents selected by the board.
Patrick Gannon, the district’s public information officer, said the board aims for the new superintendent to begin work on July 1, the first day of the district’s 2016-17 financial year.
The board also plans to announce tonight the new principals for Amador Valley High and Walnut Grove Elementary schools. The board will also decide whether to cut a total of 19.5 full-time equivalent classified positions from its workforce, which could mean the reduction of hours or layoffs.
The school board meeting will start at 7 p.m. in the district headquarters at 4665 Bernal Ave.
The board also will hold a closed-door meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. and will report on any actions taken at the regular meeting.
At least they have candidates and hopefully will find someone who doesn’t bend to the will of a vocal minority and who wants to stick around for a while. But I’m guessing that vocal minority will drive away our next Superintendent also.
“making the finalist names public to foster community transparency” – there is no need to do this. We elect these people to do a job and make good informed/educated decisions. We should let them.
All i can say is “Free Jim Hansen!!”. Come back to being retired.
Right now the only issue that matters is the legal liability the school faces from it’s continued abusive stressing of school kids.
A recent study of bay area schools shows Pleasanton rated second-highest for sleep deprivation, doping, anorexia, and self-harm among kids, following Gunn high in Palo Alto (which is currently being investigated by the Federal government and is also facing potential lawsuits).
This is driven by the insane overload of homework and stress that the schools (especially Amador High and Foothill) dump on kids. Also important is the anger that so many parents feel towards the district…in the event of a lawsuit, there will be a lot of attackers and few supporters in the community.

Call me skeptical, but I seriously doubt that there is any such study or else we would have all heard of it already. Also, skeptical about the claim of “second-highest for sleep deprivation, doping, anorexia, and self-harm”. What would be the methodology for even gathering such information? A confidential survey in the schools during school time? Again, seems like we all would have heard about it already.
