Congratulations to the Boards and Executive teams of both Stanford Health Care and ValleyCare Medical Center for reaching this historic affiliation. It signals a new, important phase in the delivery of health care in the Tri-Valley area and will benefit the community tremendously.

Since people insured by Anthem Blue Cross can no longer use Sanford Health, does this now mean they can no longer use ValleyCare?

Ptown Cletus. I don't know who told you that anthem Blue Cross cannot be used at Stanford anymore. I was just there last Friday and used that same insurance with no problem.

Lynne,
Anthem Blue Cross notified us in writing. It has also been prominently in the news. You best crawl out of your foxhole and tune in.

While it's great that Stanford is coming to the valley, there will be a huge problem with current Valley Board members trying to get on the board with Stanford. As a community we should insist that new board members are chosen to represent Valley, and our community, rather than our community hospital be used as a launching platform for a few specific board members.

I am a Blue Cross Member and received a letter in the mail about the contract. I called Stanford regarding an upcoming procedure that I have scheduled, and they told me about their website with information for Blue Cross Members. Web Link

Very useful information.

Thanks for that link. I am a member of Anthem Blue Cross and have not received a letter. I hope they can work this out. Last year because of Obamacare, my insurance was cancelled (I am self-employed). I had to pick a new insurance company and there are only three companies offering health insurance in Alameda County if you are on an individual plan; Kaiser, Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Anthem Blue Cross was the only insurance company that covered the Valley Care Foundation Medical Team that I use. If that goes away, I am out of options. So much for Obama saying I can keep my insurance and my doctors. If Blue Cross cannot work this out I will have had to change both my insurance and my doctors! Oh yes, my costs went up and my coverage down because of Obamacare, plus very few options.

Lynne, Cletus is correct. Unbeknownst to me, I have to change doctors because of this and BCBS covers $0 of my last visit. You may find yourself in the same situation-- the admin staff was also clueless about this change and I'm stuck with a hefty bill.

Thanks for the link to Stanford's negotiation info. I have still not received anything from Anthem/Blue cross about this. And by the way Cletus, I don't live in a foxhole and see no reason for your rudeness. I was merely trying to let you know that I had just been at Stanford and my insurance was not an issue.

I manage the health care for our small business and we have Anthem and I have not received any notification about Stanford? We are in the process of looking at costs for next year and the insurance has gone up 14.6% and now my insurance for 2 people will be 26K per year. So much for affordable health care!

Does anyone have an update on the Stanford-Anthem situation? It has been nearly 2 months since the contact expired. I am continuing to use my Stanford doctors as they assure me it will be billed at the in-network rate while negotiations continue. Anybody know anything more than this? Thanks!
