Pleasanton’s “RELAY for LIFE” Honors Cancer Victims and Survivors with “LUMINARIA”

Original post made by Ken mano, Willow West, on Jul 16, 2014

Pleasanton’s Relay for Life event for 2014 will be July 19-20 at the Pleasanton Middle School. Luminaria are decorated, lighted bags in memory of those who lost the battle and in honor of cancer survivors, as well as those still fighting the battle.
Friends and family can purchase a luminaria bag, and decorate it themselves or volunteers will decorate it. Any amount can be donated for a bag, Web Link

A cancer survivor is defined by the American Cancer Society as anyone who is living with cancer, from the date of diagnosis. If you have ever heard the words, "You have cancer," we invite you to participate as a survivor, get a Survivor T-Shirt at the Survivor tent and join the Survivor Lap.
The Relay for Life event features the Survivor’s Ceremony and Lap, the Luminaria Lighting Ceremony, the Fight Back Ceremony and great family entertainment. Schedules are on the website.
The Luminaria Ceremony takes place after dark, to remember those we have lost to cancer, honor those who fought cancer, and support those whose fight continues. Candles are lit inside of personalized bags and are placed around the Relay track as glowing tributes to those who’ve been affected by cancer.
Individuals and Families can just come and walk the track in remembrance of their loved ones.
Pleasanton’s Relay for Life event raised over $95,000 in 2013 for the American Cancer Society.
