I suppose it's for the best, but it's sort of sad to see the last old saloon in town disappear. Once upon a time, P-town was a rural cow-town, full of working folks mostly, and neighborhood saloons like the Pastime were common. We've moved upscale, and overall that's an improvement, but I do sorta wish we could keep one dive joint, just for atmosphere and authenticity.

Where are the customers, employees, and office workers going to park?

Please, no more banks.

Jack -- you hit the nail right on the head. The city is willing to, once again, become a virtual prostitute for a new building and allow the employees and customers to park within the neighborhoods surrounding the building. For a VERY small plaza, controlled by the city, they have allowed this developer to skate on the need to pay into the parking fund. Since the city will control the plaza does this mean they will keep out those morons who shriek their fire and brimstone at innocent shoppers? Not likely.

I heard the restaurant going in was going to hire union labor. Anything to this? I won't step into the building if it is unionized. (Comment partially removed by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff as irrelevant to this thread.)

Finally, who really cares if anti-union nuts enter a building...what a strange comment,
I rest my case!

It is a tragedy this historic landmark will be torn down. It is a very significant element of the town's history.

The lot has such a small footprint. why limit it to just two stories? I think Main street needs to look like Peters Avenue.

Please no more Italian restaurants!

How about a decent restaurant? Downtown Livermore was completely surpassed downtown Pleasanton. They have tons of great restaurants. Pleasanton is full of overpriced restaurants with no imagination or flavor. We need something like the Alehouse,Sauced, or Demitris...

The council putting the final stamp on removing the last old bar from Pleasanton in order to have the upscale look. Pleasanton used to remind of of Danville and Pleasanton used to be much better than Livermore. NO MORE. Pastime isn't nearly a bar like Elliots or VE club but Pleasanton wouldn't allow that to happen. Next step... Get rid of it. All Italian food, Sushi out the kazoo and no where to park. NICE!

I prefer downtown quiet. It's really no different than it's ever been. It's never been a nightlife hotspot.
I really don't see the appeal of Livermore's downtown. It's not something I'd enjoy dealing with on a daily basis.

"We need something like the Alehouse,Sauced," - but those places serve beer and are loud. Places like those just bring in unwanted noise and trouble and would want to stay open past 9pm. Those types of businesses are only in it to serve their brand of customers and make money, they don't care about the dozens of people that several blocks away. Heck,, those places would probably advertise and try to bring in people from other towns. We can't have that.

Anybody know when the building is coming down. What are they going to do about the toxic waste that comes out of the building.

When are they going to start tearing that eyesore down?

The building is gone. So long Pastime. No more noxious smoking in front on the street. No more beer and pool. Pleasanton has lost more of its unique character. Let's have more pasta restaurants or banks downtown. Let's make Pleasanton as bland as possible.

Yep, now that the building has come down we have a nice photo op of a shot at that rat hole jewelry store next door!! Crank up that bulldozer and go about another 20 feet north, sure would make for some nice parking for the new building.

@Andy H; I understand the tunnel is intact. In fact, it's been upgraded with gunite lining and new LED lights all the way to Gay 90s.
