Special beef cuts recalled by Petaluma producer

A Petaluma-based company recalled more than 8.7 million pounds of meat Saturday produced over the last year that may not have been adequately
inspected and could cause consumers to become seriously ill or even die, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

Does anyone know if this meat has been shipped to grocery stores and fast food outlets? The story doesn't really say where the meat ended up, and I would like to know how to avoid purchasing the beef. Looking for answers....

Without so much unnecessary and onerous state expansion and regulation this beef could have reached supermarkets and delis instead of being wasted the way it will be. Think of the poor owners and stockholders. Crying shame.

Read between the lines: the media can twist any words to incriminate an innocent, honest business. Quote " may not have been adequately
inspected ..." could also indicate that the Federal Inspector did not do his/her job, and forgot to sign a document. Yet in order to save face, the story is written to imply the meat is bad. What is needed here are critical thinking skills and consideration of all possibilities before jumping into emotional panic states of mind.

Thanks Objective. I think what Libertarian is saying is that if we didn't have intrusive Nazi-like government food inspectors, these kind of mistakes could be avoided. Its all so much government waste and incompetence. And then to give these snoopy fools tyrannical say over what people can or cannot eat is just beyond the pail. Let the people freely choose what meats they want to eat. The color of the meat is what indicates whether it's bad or good.

Beware if any truck suddenly shows up in your neighborhood selling steaks door-to-door. Never a good idea to buy steaks from a door-to-door salesman in my opinion, but with 8 million pounds of bad beef floating around the area it's probably an especially bad time to consider buying steaks from an unknown source no matter how good the price is.

No joke. Have heard stories about people who claim that the refrigeration on their truck has suddenly broken down and they need to quickly sell off all the steaks inside at big discounts.
