Are you kidding me! School board members should not be getting paid. This is an opportunity to give back to the community. Passing for a raise of a lousy $20 is insulting. Anyone associated with this idea should appologize or quit!

Really, so many families still struggle. Maybe instead of raising the fees for day care for summer, they should defer their raises and the bonus that the administration is giving to themselves. As always, the little guy pays and the big guy continues to take!!!!!!! Immoral!

My kid is beyond the need for daycare/kids club, but I still find it ludicrous that they are asking existing users, to pay an increase?

I see how the kids club(s) at various after school "y-kids" provide care. They let them run around the playground area(s) while the "monitors" carry walkie talkies. The monitors walk around watching the kids and wait for a call on the walkie talkie telling them that a kids parent is waiting, they yell for the kid and the kid leaves.

Yeah they have a few board games in the y facility and they occasionally do some projects, but it is primarily watch kids in playground and give them a bag of crackers/juice (if the family paid for the perk)

They should provide homework help (which should be included with the already high monthly fee) and maybe some team building exercises.

The kids run around without much staff interaction.

Unfortunately for many parents, the alternatives are slim and or more expensive.

Why? Because we live in California and "everyone is rich"

A 5% raise?!?! That's more than the striking Bart workers got!!! There are people in this community who are struggling, trying to make their $10,000 monthly mortgage payments, and these people are calling for an extra $20? I'd say it is highly immoral!!! Next, the Board is going to ask to ride our public transportation for free!!! When will it stop? Perhaps we need a petition that insists that the Board members all step down?

550 and 650 per child per month for after-school group babysitting?

Madness.

It's not the money per se, but the poor cost performance that boggles the mind.

I just want to emphasize that I am not calling for the Board to step down, per se. All I'm doing is raising the thought for everyone's consideration.

Just another example of self-serving politicians lining their own pockets with my hard-earned tax money. That $20 is money my accounting firm could have hidden--uh, I mean *sheltered*--in my Cayman Islands bank account.

Just say NO to these exorbitant raises for school board members!

Wow - $400 a month? Is that all our school board members get paid? They actually put in a lot of hours. And to have to listen to all the complaining... ugh. That takes dedication.

I can't believe that the School Board would even try to discuss this topic given that the schools have lost so much in the last few years and schools continue to struggle as parents cannot or DO NOT want to financially provide funding towards their own children's classroom or special events such as Outdoor Education. This position should be volunatary as this position would be a platform for them to be recognized for their contributions and their desire to run for an elected position. So many parents provide their time and talents to PTAs, PFCs, parent teacher and school organizations within their schools and these parents are not getting paid but looking to make a difference. Board Members should consider that philosophy - make a difference without making a difference in their pay!

If you look at the minutes from prior meetings and also what was on the agenda last night, raises have been given to teachers, other employees and management. The board should also have been given some raise considering the rest of the employees in the district received raises. They make $400 per month which is way less than city council. The raise they were talking about was $20 per month and as board member hintzke said, it's a total of $1200 per year for the entire board. Board members do a lot of work and put in a lot of time to serve. The small amount that was suggested was warranted. It's surprising that 3 of the board members wimped out on this but then say that walnut grove parents don't have a right to speak. shaking my head...

what if nobody decides to work for free...who cares if you keep having soooooooo many children that nobody can keep up with their educational needs?

i wouldn't volunteer...if you want me to help out, you better pay up or get lost...what a bunch of nuts to think that anybody wants to work for free while you just keep on breeding and breeding and breeding...duh

School board is a public service, not a job or a career. The position pays a stipend to help pay for the incidental costs or driving, phone, etc.

I moved here for the schools. I paid more money for my house and higher property taxes so my kids could go to top rated Pleasanton schools. The idea that a Board Trustee only receives a tiny stipend sounds wrong.

Yes, pay a stipend for a small job or small task, but not for something important like managing our schools!

If you don't pay a fair rate, you will get what you pay for. And personally I don't now anyone that would want that job for pennies - not with all that responsibility.
