Where will FORWARD take us

Original post made by jimf01, another community, on May 3, 2012

The Obama 2012 re-election campaign kicks off this weekend, with a new slogan: FORWARD
Despite the fact that the Obama campaign as already set a record for re-election fundraising events. Well, set a record doesn't really capture it. The campaign has already held more re-election fundraising events than his five predecessors, combined. Web Link

Yes, the President who says his top priority is jobs (at least this week it is) has a bigger priority. He has certainly prioritized his re-election effort higher than any President in recent memory. The President is traveling the country on Air force One, and everywhere he goes his campaign organizes campaign fundraisers. But that is not a re-election campaign, according to Obama 2012.

The campaign has selected, apparently after much thought, a slogan. It is one word: FORWARD

Now, what does the word forward mean? The dictionary says the adverb or verb form means "to or toward what is ahead or in front, or to help onward"

In other words, to keep moving, in the same direction, not changing course.

What will we get if we do not change course? In 2009 the day Obama took office, average gas price was $1.83 a gallon, this past month, it reached $3.84 a gallon. Let's move FORWARD. In 2016, at the rate we are going, we will exceed $8 a gallon for gasoline.

The unemployment rate stood at 8.3% in February 2009, and after peaking at 10%, it has come back down the official unemployment rate in February of this year was 8.3%. The unemployment rate, despite green jobs initiatives, stimulus, temporary tax credits, unemployment extensions, and all variety of other additional spending, has not fallen. The official rate has remained above 8% for a record 38 straight months.

But this doesn't tell the whole story. When Obama took office, the labor force participation rate was 65.7%,and when the recession officially ended in June of that year, the number was the same. As of Feb 2009, the labor force participation rate had plummeted to 63.7%, the most rapid decline in U.S. history. That means that under President Obama nearly 5 million Americans have left the workforce - not even looking for work. But, hey FORWARD, right? Web Link

At the rate we are going, by 2016, the only way to get the unemployment number down will be to decrease the labor force participation rate. Job creation picked up last year, but it has stagnated again. If we counted the people who have been removed from the official labor force, unemployment is over 11%. Fact is, we have over 80 million people in this country (over the age of 16) in a population of 313 million who have no job.

Let's look at other facts. More Americans are in poverty today than at any time since Census began keeping poverty records over 50 years ago. Last year, real economic growth totaled 1.7%. But, again, forward. We will bring people out of poverty, when? Not by 2016, on the course we are on. Not at that rate of economic growth.

Web Link3/

But this President has nothing to run on, except forward. Time for a change of course.

I've always been against anything Forward throughout my political career, though I'm not a career politician. Indeed, I've always supported Backward things, except on those occasions when I haven't.

We are long beyond putting a chicken in everyone's pot. If elected, I shall make sure that everyone has access to magic happy underpants that can be used as parachutes to stop the precipitous fall we've taken since that nice guy who is in over his head has taken office. Backwards! Use your magic happy pantaloons to take us back to the good old days we experienced under the predecessor to this unfortunate guy in office whose currently so far in over his head. Backwards, straight ahead!!!

Geez, Jim. We should follow you? You folks thought we should follow Bush II.

Lets move on. As Dwight Eisenhower, a progressive conservative, once said (excuse my paraphrasing): if you follow the (bigoted)conservatives, then you might as well pass on our liberties.

dublinmike, what did he say that was bigoted? I'm not that great at reading between the lines so maybe I missed something. I think it's enough to say that he has failed miserably as a president, we don't have to bring up the fact that he embarrasses white folks.

I want to dispel this notion of the GOP and I being bigoted. As Governor, I never even thought of bothering to put a gay person in my administration. This time around I did; and I told him to shut up. But, golly sakes, just because my followers and I told him to take his gay orientation someplace else and go away doesn't make us bigots.

Heavens sake, my wife met a gay person when she was going to college. Not at the college itself, because that wouldn't have been tolerated there. I think he was a pizza delivery person or something. She didn't go out with him or anything. But she'd talk to him once in a while. These kinds of people tend to stand out in Utah (what me and the Mrs. call God's country) if you know what I mean! Onward, Backward!

Bankrupcy. That's where CA is heading and we're forward thinking. The rest of the country will follow us under Obama's second term. Dreading it.

It is not getting better. It is getting worse. What plausible plan have the Democrats presented for getting 80 million+ and 8.5 million underemployed working? None. But, FORWARD!

Or, maybe we can just blame this on Bush?

Tax increases? FORWARD! WSJ gives us a rundown of what the taxpayers can look "forward" to for 2013. Vote for the Democrats, and you pay.

- higher tax rates across the board on anyone or any business owners making more than $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for couples.
- cancel the investment tax rate reductions that have been in place since 2003
- impose a new investment income tax hike of 3.8%, and introduce the new "Buffett rule" on the rich
- capital gains to 30% from 15% today
- dividends to 30% from 15%
- the estate tax to 45% from 35%
- the end to the temporary payroll tax cut

These are the 3% of taxpayers that Mr. Obama says aren't paying their fair share, though that 3% pays more in income tax than the rest of the other 97%.
A central contradiction of this plan is that the White House predicts accelerating real GDP growth of 3% in 2013 and 4.1% by 2015 even as the economy is whacked by these tax increases.

Golly geez, don't these numbers speak for themselves. Onward, Backward!

Under the nice black guy who's out of his depth (can any of them swim?):
Private sector jobs: Up by 35 thousand
Public sector jobs: Down 608 thousand
Stock market: Up by 64%

And under my illuminous predecessor Bush:
Private sector jobs: Down by 646 thousand
Public sector jobs: Up by 1.7 million
Stock market: Down 24%

Oh, Steve, I'm happy you arrived home early from today's Tractor Pulling contest at the Hippodrome! You know so much about tractor pulling and professional wrestling, and so I realize you probably don't read much. If you plug in to Google -- job creation: Obama v. Bush -- you get dozens of very recent sources that all draw upon govt labor reports. Of course, you will find some way to grind up those numbers in that tractor grating mind of yours, but that's why we like you. Here's something from Salon (no, not the nail salon that your wife goes to for foot messages):

"There is a number buried in today’s government labor report that deserves closer examination: 35,000. That’s the net number of private sector jobs created during the Obama administration to date. That’s right, it’s a positive number. After the worst economic disaster to befall the United States in 80 years, that’s a number that maybe we should be applauding. Remember: The private sector hemorrhaged more than 2 million jobs in the first three months of 2009 alone. The hole was deep.

"Unfortunately, it’s still a tiny number, and it is dwarfed by a much larger figure: 607,000. That’s the number of public sector jobs — federal, state and local — that have been lost since Obama took office. It’s a story that probably isn’t getting told enough about the Obama administration: Big government keeps getting smaller.

"But the real eye-opener comes when we compare Obama’s numbers to George W. Bush’s. In Bush’s _first_ term, the economy shed 913,000 private sector jobs! 913,000! The only thing that saved Bush’s first term from being a complete economic disaster, in terms of employment, was robust public sector growth: The economy added 900,000 government jobs. One wonders: Without the massive growth in the public sector during Bush’s first term, would he have been reelected?"

It must all be lies, this. So, Steve, put on your John Deere hat, rev up that caterpillar intellect of yours, and figure out some way to dismiss the numbers. We're all counting on you. (For some reason, my campaign staff has found it easy to rely on the country bumpkin crowd in matters such as these; why bother with facts, for goodness sakes, right? Love ya, Steve.

Hmmmm, wondering where my loyal acolytes Jimbo and Steve have gone. Then my aides told me about the huge NASCAR race in Talladega today. Well that explains it! I just love the way the boy and girl drivers dress themselves up as 'Eat at Joe's' billboards. It gives just the right country feel to everything. By the way, I've always loved cars. For Pete's sake I had to spend nearly $80 thousand in lobbying fees to get approval for my car elevators in my LaJolla cliffside home which I worked so hard for. My wife's faves are her two Cadillacs. Would only Ford and GM gone bankrupt without the bailout, they'd be doing so much better today. Yes, by golly, I've always loved automobiles. We need a real businessman in the Oval Office, not someone who is in over his head.

Sorry for not getting back to you obama worshippers sooner, but I have a job and a life other than watching you shill for the boy king.
You guys have an altar to this guy at home, or do you just light candles in his honor, along with the occassional human sacrifice?

Ignoring the usual personal attacks typical of our local troll, in lieu of a coherent argument, again you fail to provide evidence of your numbers in defense of 'the nice black guy who's out of his depth'. (why bring up race; unless, you just can't defend his failed record; such a lazy non-argument).

Here's a link to actual statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing unemployment rates for the past 10 years: Web Link Of course, actual unemployment is much higher because those who have run out of benefits and just quit looking for work are not counted. Note the huge spike around mid 2008, getting worse over time, until it finally started leveling off around the time Republicans took over control of the House.

I wish I had more time to school the likes of mittens, but I prefer to be productive, so back to work, while you trolls sit on your asses and worship your messiah. Hoax and Chains........bye, now.

Well, glad to see my two plough boys are back! Jimbo, I love your insightful presentation of me speaking to tens of thousands of empty seats in Michigan only a couple of weeks ago. (Who needs a football stadium full of fans when FOX News will give the same effect?)

Steve, you're what I like from most of my loyal followers. Any good campaign needs dumb as much as clever. Now, about those jobs numbers for Bush? Be careful my boy about giving 'credit' to our GOPers for the jobs numbers you rightly point out as being insufficient. Somebody might actually want to give the black guy in office who's out of his depth some credit. Stick with the bad, bad, bad, bad, Obama is bad, bad, bad mantra. You wear it so well. Like an Eat at Joe's sign.... Don't forget, you're smarter than all of them, Steve. You slave away for us rich folks while the rest of the slackers pick up their entitlement checks ... that you pay for. Now, back to work, guy! Low income families need their government handouts that you're working so hard for!!!

Unionized school teaches fail to teach kids how to read? - Go FORWARD, let your government to ban all the charter and private schools which regular Americans can still afford. When your government knows everything you need to be happy under their strong supervision these who "are more equal than others" can get their education in "more equal than others" schools and the rest doesn't need to know how to read.
Healthcare system is broken? - Go FORWARD, let Obamacare's clerks to decide what care do you need and whether you are still young enough to get any care at all.
Small business disappearing and decent jobs go away - Go FORWARD, vote for more taxes, maybe one day China will offer to your kid some of their low-paid jobs they will outsourcing to America.
Occupiers destroyed businesses in Oakland? Go FORWARD, contribute your share and let them into your house to protest that you are still there while they don't have comfortable place for their cocaine parities.
America is still 'kind-of' free country, you can go FORWARD and vote to be free to do everything your government allows you to; I hope I'm still free to not follow this direction, back in USSR I've already been exactly where your Great Comrade President Obama takes you and I didn't like it there.

You are very right, AnnaS, I think. Russia was beautiful place before Czar was overthrown. Feudal agricultural society where people work for rich only, not for poor people too. I like idea for America. Maybe Dick Cheney or somebody like that for Czar. Not Obamba's many czars. Too many. Just one Czar I think. It's not the GOP's turn yet.

George Soros has already mandated that Obama will get another term but in turn will mess things up to such an extent that a weaker (than Romney) GOP candidate will emerge in 2016 to win the presidency but will only be a one-termer due to the state of the economy, World War III and looming ice age. At this time the true Progressive/Socialist democrat candidate will appear with promises of ending war, stopping the environmental crisis but only with total government intervention. This dark horse candidate will sweep the 2020 election and will finally turn the US into a pseudo-socialist/military state and then we all wish for the days of Obama, Bush, Clinton.

I am a business owner with a staff whom I love and serve. Unfortunately, on the present course and laws, I may not be able to keep my staff. It's OK though. The government will support them when I have to let them go. But, where does the government get their money? Oh yeah. Those of us who are working!

Now I realize that, right now, they are getting it by borrowing from China. So, who will pay the interest? Those of us who are working. But, how will we afford the interest when it exceeds our GNP? Take a look at Greece, Italy, Portugal, France. 1 out of 2 workers in Greece works for the government. That means that every non-government working person has to generate enough productivity to take care of his family and 100% of another.

Interesting to note that both countries just voted against a more normalized government where people carry their own weight. It would be too painful. And, on our present course, we will be right there with them. Frightening!

Those of us who are working and carrying our own weight better find the time to vote!

I agree with I think Antonio. Czar was ruler in Russia I who loved and served his subjects. Then Bolsheviks came and they loved and served too I think, but not so much. Now we have business men who love and serve the people who work for them. But cannot keep them because profits aren't so big perhaps. Not enough government to keep business men true to their love and service. It is shame I think we cannot go back to Czar times.

I afraid, Antonio and Geeneyuss, you are way too optimistic. Greece, Italy and other countries could afford keeping democracy so far only because there was America which spent their people and money to keep them safe and there were countries like Germany who were not mind to provide them financially. There is nobody there who is able and wants to provide America, so when American government will "run out of other people money", which is almost already happened, they will not have other choice but either to boost a civil war and declare a state of emergency or to jump directly to communist's dictatorship with political prisons, working camps and 1 hour long bread-lines.
If, G. Soros is capable to make Americans re-elect Obama in 2012, than 2016 elections wold not happen.
Of course, there are still more "optimistic" scenarios: After China will claim their own, we will be given a chance to vote for Hu Jintao, or nuclear war in 2013 will bring this place to the quick painless death.

Don't feel sorry for me huggy, I don't need anything from you. Peddle your 'lazy liberal' meme elsewhere. Only people like you buy into those lies. Of course you're apparently not hard to fool because you think Romney actually has a chance at being president.

Oh, you are so superior to me because I misspelled one word I've probably never actually written down! Buddy, you have a superiority complex and it's showing.

Apparently true!

Considering the alternative and to get the other side of the Romney story, everyone should know this.
Snopes.com confirmed this as true... Web Link

Romney's true personality and colors deserve to be told to all.
Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy.

Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York , and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey , where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, “It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.”

So, here’s my epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a problem, and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes consciously, and sometimes not-so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for self-aggrandizement, or for personal gain. He does it because that’s just how he’s wired.

Many people are unaware of the fact that when Romney was asked by his old employer, Bill Bain, to come back to Bain & Company as CEO to rescue the firm from bankruptcy, Romney left Bain Capital to work at Bain & Company for an annual salary of one dollar. When Romney went to the rescue of the 2002 Salt Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years, and wouldn’t use an expense account. He also accepted no salary as Governor of Massachusetts.

Bottom Line; Character Counts.

Janna, you are right. Let's set you and your family up in a 3 or 4 bedroom house here in Pleasanton, don't worry about a house payment we will figure that out later. A line of credit will be available at Safeway, payments deferred of course, and twice a year a vacation, excluding holidays, will be available for you, the family, and take the babysitter as a bonus for putting up with your hardship.
College educations, of course for the kids are included. Did I leave anything out? Do I have a clue now?

I lived in Pleasanton for eight years. You couldn't pay me to move back to a city that has people like you in it, huggy. Please take some meds.

That Janna posts this article from Salon is all I need to know about her. To synthesize the activity of Bain Capital down to "destroys companies to make money" is willfully ignorant of the facts.

Janna, if this statement is true, then answer this. Who made money off the destruction of dozens or hundreds of companies in the GM bailout? Dealerships all over the country had their right to sell GM cars taken away by the Obama administration. Those were corporations, and "lives are devastated" by this action. Who made money off of that? The answer is the the US government and the UAW union Web Link

Is it fair that the Obama administration was allowed to decide to steal some peoples livelihoods, and reward others (who supported his campaign btw)

Let's compare that to Bain Capital. Bain has some massive success stories, like funding that enabled Staples to expand from one store in 1986 to over 2000 stores in 2011. Yes Romney and investors reaped big profits, but you don't make big profits without improving something, enhancing the value of something, and what they did was enhance the value of these companies, making them more successful, Sometimes people get laid off when that happens. But since you are ok with the GM bailout, please don't pretend that it is horrific and criminal in the case of Bain capital.

Is that more fair than what Bain Capital does?

Jimfol, I've stated that I like you. And I do. But golly sakes alive, you can only stretch dumb just so far. I can't understand why you offered us the link from the (owned by you-know-who) liberal New York Times. All that says is that the UAW is adopting more cooperative postures in response to Barack-way-out-of-his-depth-Obama's efforts to get the auto companies on track.

Now, as you know, I personally saved the auto industry recently when I argued they should be allowed to go bankrupt. Well, okay, maybe that didn't help the auto companies much. But hey, my family does own a lot of Detroit made cars. That's got to count for something, for heaven's sake!

Oh, and those companies Bain and me ravaged into bankruptcy? The enhanced value went into our pockets. I'd ask you to read the Salon piece that Janna has contributed, but I'd much rather you continue to drool out of spittle that you're famous for. Why bother to read when lying is so much more fun? That's why I love ya, Jimbo! Have you considered my offer to join my campaign as a corndog eating loyalist follower?

Romney said: "I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy...And finally, when that was done, and help was given, the companies got back on their feet. So I'll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry's come back."
Web Link

He is right. That was what Bain Capital did. Companies that would have failed were managed properly to help them back on their feet. This activity should have happened in the private sector.
But the Obama admin were the ones with the 'enhanced value' going into the pockets of his union pals, in order to assist his re-election chances.

And I did read the Salon piece troll, and commented on it. What Janna doesn't do is realize her own cognitive dissonance. This article says "(the wealthy are)used to getting exactly what they want from Washington, because they essentially own both parties. ...Obama has not been remotely unkind to Wall Street, even as he’s grudgingly adopted a slightly more leftist tone. The grotesque nature of our campaign finance system has effectively made economic populism impossible. "

And this is exactly the position of the Tea Party, and the root of the problem. Janna and the rest of the leftists will never agree that they have common ground with the Tea Party, because they know that handing the power back to the voters will eventually work out to a disadvantage for the Democrats, The US voters are center-right.

They decry everything the Republicans do, when their own party is doing the same things.

Jimbo, like I say, I like my followers to be dumb. I was against the auto industry bail-out, and am on record for supporting bankruptcy of the industry as well. So, yes, I do take credit for the turn-around, and you're dumb enough to believe me. Isn't America great?

There are two major parties in the US. Our GOP wants to expand democracy by imposing increased voter restriction laws. We want it more difficult for elders and single moms and young people and minorities to vote because we want to restrict the numbers of voters. Why? Because that's more democratic, silly Jimbo! The Democrat Party wants to expand the numerical base of voters so that its easier for Americans of questionable background to vote. I don't think it's democratic when we have mobs of students and minorities and recent immigrants and elders in their wheelchairs gumming up the works. So, in other words, Jimbo, in addition to being dumb as dirt, you also are terribly confused. But that's what we like! Voters are center-right. Yes, that's why we have Obama in there, yes?

I wanted so badly to attend your tea party affair a couple of weeks back. I hear the 7 or 8 of you who showed up moved the rally to KFC where you all pigged out on chicken wings and mashed potatoes. Keep up the good work.

As usual, an extremely perceptive and well thought out comment by West Side Observer. Leaves us all very impressed by his intellectual acumen. Knows how to latch onto the issues, he does. He really does.

By the way, I'm on the GOP side of the ledger.

Mr. Mittens,

Could have fooled me. The DNC is paying well for your cogent thoughts. Your last entry was too short to make you any money. Must really have a burr under your saddle. Get back to your other threads where you can score some booty. Or, better yet, go hi-jack another newspaper for a while and give the rest of us a well deserved rest.

Aww, gosh this isn't some kind of big f'n deal, guys!

That auto bailout? Most did fine!

Non-union Delphi employees were given less favorable benefits than union employees during the auto bailout and GM restructuring. Despite Vice President Joe Biden saying that "most did fine," they don't agree.

As Janna would call them, people who were fired, their pensions stolen, cogs who were discarded Some of these people are sick of being treated like commodities of the political class.

No need for 50 stars on a flag, the federal government will do all. For All.
