"They or their families could be ordered to pay restitution for their involvement in the slashing incidents."
Excuse me????? They COULD BE ordered to pay? Where is the justice in that? The kids did it and they need to be responsible for every cent of damage including the time off from work for people who had to get their tires changed. Every person who was affected needs to file in small claims court if they do not receive every cent back that these worthless punks cost them.
"Munayer said the juveniles were apparently not connected with a previous occurrence of tire-slashings,". Right. And I will sell you my ocean front condo in Nevada if you buy that one. PPD, you found your criminals. Now nail em.

These kids and their parent sneed to have the Book thrown at them. The kids should be tired as adults. 30 years minimum. The parents should never be allowed to parent again, and wouldn't be if they were thrown into prison for 30-50 years like they deserve.
These were vicious crimes against property, which is even worse than against persons. Persons come and go, but tires have to be purchased, and time has to be taken off of work to buy them. This is like cattle rustling. Parents should not be asleep when there kids sneak out at night. If you can't sleep with one eye open, maybe you should have one of your eyes smitten from you. An eye for an eye, an ear for a ear.

If guilty....these teens need to be held fully responsible - along with their parents. If they are found to have caused the crime....they need to do the time. It's as simple as that. Too often teens are let off the hook in our society and they don't get the message that what they did is completely wrong. You need to be accountable for your actions regardless of your age. That is an important life lesson.

Let's not pass such swift judgement. We do not know why these kids are acting out. They do need consequences, but they are need help. I hope the families involved work with the community to turn this around. They are just children. Let's show some support.

News coverage: Perhaps the Editor or a Reporter could let us know HOW they caught these criminals.
And, No, not for a minute should anyone be quick to feel these were poor unappreciated vandals who were just "Acting Out".
They are destroyers who hurt many people who didn't even know them.
Tires are very costly, and imagine if your car were disabled by some punk.

Empathy is right--we don't know the whole story here. Maybe the tires attacked the teens. Maybe they had Skittles in them, or were wearing hoodies. Maybe these teens have ADHD, which means they should not be held responsible for any of their actions. We should be SUPPORTING these teens in their actions, not prosecuting them.

Love it Apathy. Of course we cannot possibly hold the little creeps accountable. Mommie and Daddie have never held them accountable for anything, that's why they grew up like this.

The teenagers who did this and their parents definitely need to be held financially accountable for all the damage. 14- and 15-year olds are old enough to know right from wrong. They had 31 opportunities to demonstrate that they knew right from wrong and they failed every time. Give them a bill for all the damage. That will wake them up.
As for how much poor parenting is responsible for all this, that's an open question. It's possible that poor parenting is involved here, but it's also possible that these are just problem teenagers of good parents. I've seen families where that's been the case.

How can you hold your kids accountible when our great liberal society, led by his majesty Barack Hussien Obama, no longer allow parents to paddle there children? I don't know where I'd be today if I hadn't of been paddled the heck out of me like I was when I was a child. Bad parenting, supported by liberal loon montra of permissitivity. And kids are no longer told which neighbors are they're superiors. These contrived people all make me want to puke.

@steve and sybil
You two have to be most ignorant posters in this forum. How can whoever is sitting in the white house be responsible? I had problems with my daughter when bush was in office and I couldnt paddle her then. Steve you always blame obama for policies that are created in the local or state jurisdictions and always long before obama was voted in.

How can Nancy, Sam and the rest of you left wing loons be so ignorent? Here's what presidential candidate Sarah Palin had to say on the matter.
"On Thursday, Sarah Palin spoke with Fox News about one of the Secret Service agents caught up in the Colombia prostitution scandal, noting that he had been in her security detail during the 2008 presidential campaign. She reacted to a comment the agent made that he was 'checking her out' and managed to work in a jab at Obama for eating dog meat as a child.
'Well check this out, bodyguard, you're fired,' Palin said. 'I hope his wife ... sends him to the doghouse -- as long as he's not eating the dog, along with his former boss.'"
So whose the dog eater now, eh? You don't think the refugees in your neighborhood are thinking of their superior neighbors pets when we have a president like this giving them ideas and letting them know its okay? You contrived liberals make me want to puke.

I am happy that these kids have been stopped. This is good for everyone. I fully understand the outrage that people feel over the activities of these kids. However, I will not mindlessly condemn the parents as the sole source and cause of the actions taken by these kids. And I don't think you should either. That would demonstrate less intelligence in this matter than the kids used themselves in deciding to take these actions. Of course people want retribution for the acts perpetrated against them. Not fairness. Not justice. Just retribution (a.k.a. revenge). This is normal and natural to the human condition. But I note that throughout history, regardless of the best efforts of the parents, sometimes kids are just who they are and they go down the path that they will. Should the parents of Dennis Rader (the "BTK" serial killer from Kansas) be held responsible for the actions of their child? In that case I think not. In other cases the answer may be yes. In this particular case I don't have enough information regarding the home environment and parental actions (or lack of actions) to make such condemning statement like, "It’s the parents fault. Lets throw the book at them. Lets put 'em all in jail. Lets make everyone pay for these crimes….etc., etc.". I'm not releasing anyone from his or her responsibility. More investigation, less emotion and more information is needed to make good decisions.

I'm with Bob. Let's throw the parents in jail and make them pay for their kids' crimes. I admit, I'm the first to blame Obama for the actions of every single government worker, so why is a parent any less to blame for the actions of their very few (comparatively speaking) kids?

I just want to know the race and socio-economic status of the teens. Are they drug using rich white kids with absentee parents; or are they black Africans who did this to get back at "the man?"
Either way -- they should be thrown in debtors prison and forced to do hard labor to replace the full value of changing tires plus 3 hours of each affected victims salary. All this liberal victim empathy bullcrap has got to stop. I hope everyone who wants to "support" the perps has something like this happen to them personally.

Sam said: "Probably just some kids having fun." Not so funny. First trolling on this website, next puncturing the tires of there parants' superior neighbors. Its enough to make you want to puke. The one thing they do right in Saudi Arabia, besides steal our oil, is they cut off the hand of anyone who offends anothers' property. A little bit of that might go a long way in turning this country around. Cutting off the hands of both the kids. Not both hands. Just one each for both kids. While the parents are made to watch. Because face it, its the parants fault.

Steven in Stoneridge -- were you born a turkey or did you work to become one? Earlier this week you saw a connection of union antipathy towards Walmart and the tire slashing. Now that the 14-15 year old union thugs have been released into the custody of their union steward parents, you want them and the parents to serve 30+ years. I'll follow your lead and suggest you need to serve a year in the reformatory for repeated offenses against human intelligence...

@steve for someone who thinks the understand or know how the criminal system works. No where do the authoities announce the names of juveniles unless they are charging them as an adult. This is a case of felony vandalism, not a capital offense. Please get off your high horse you really dont know much. At all of you with political references....this has nothing to do with who is in the white house or unions, it has to do with juvenile vandalism that happens all across this country in small towns and big cities. It has been going on for decades and decades.find the proper forum for political reteric, it dosnt belong here.

Swim fan, it has EVERYTHING to do with the message of moral permissiveness that's sent via the mainstream media (AKA the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party). Liberalism and union cronyism have grown so bad that parents can't even control their children any more. Do you think this would even have occurred to kids back when Reagan was in charge? Are you BLIND?
a resident of Another Pleasanton neighborhood

I think this has gone far afield of the primary topic. This incident is not in itself political. It has nothing specifically to do with the President, nor Congress nor the City Council. It has nothing to do with Union supporters nor Union haters. It is a people issue. To give acknowledgement to the point that I think is trying to made by some posters, I agree that in our society today many people do not take responsibility for their children. At least I believe that is the point trying to be made. Unfortunately it has been so buried under misdirecting statements, disrespect, hate and the inability to actually state the message clearly, that it is easy to overlook and miss. If this is the message, then I agree with the poster(s) of the message. I would not agree that this type of thing would not have happened when Reagan was President. This is simply incorrect. However, since before Reagan, there has been a slowly changing attitude in many parts of America, by Parents, with regard to the raising of their children and the instilling of respect for others and the teaching of solid right and wrong values. For some reason, this parental responsibility has shifted to become the responsibility of someone else. Who that someone else is, has not yet been fully defined and decided, but it seems to be landing in the lap of the government, in our schools.
I don't know where society goes from here. My own viewpoint is that we must somehow shift the parenting responsibility away from the government and back into the home. This will be difficult but not unachievable. But it will take an acknowledgement by society, by you, that it must be done and, an acceptance of the baggage that goes with it. For example, in my youth when we drove to the store with mom and dad they would tell us to wait in the car for them. Today, we call the police if a parent leaves their child in the car. In my youth, if I did something wrong I'd get sent to my room, or denied a privilege, or if it was really serious I would be spanked. Today we call child services if a parent would teach their children in this fashion. I am not an advocate of beating your children. That is stupid. But I do advocate teaching, show by example, and when necessary discipline, even physical discipline. Most parents today don't want to be the parent. They want to be the 'friend' instead. When their child does something wrong, instead of dealing with the situation and their child properly, they want to deny the situation in order to defend their 'friend'. So who will teach the children? Who will raise the child? Looks like it will be the government. So, for all of you non-democrats out there, do you really want your children to be raised as Democrats? And you Democrats, do you really want your children to be raised as one of 'Those People'? If not, then you have to be the parent.
a resident of Amador Estates
on Apr 22, 2012 at 12:45 pm
I'm with Bob. The farther we are from the Reagan era, the greater the danger of being raised as Democrats by the government. Also, kids should be locked in the car on hot days in order to keep them in line, and we need to bring back physical discipline, so long as it doesn't get around to child protective services.
Thank you for saying what we've all been thinking!

I would like to know how the two/three kids were caught. A little more information would be great. So glad they found these kids. I hope they spend time in jail and have to pay for everything single tire that was slashed.
Its a win win for both sides..
Kids are in jail for the people who want the kids punished and parents pay for the tires, for the people who believe its the parents fault.

@Apathy - the first president I voted for was Reagan, so that tells you my approximate age and politcal party. I was also the child of physical punishment when I did something wrong, and believe it to be a deterant. You and many that post here seem to think that prior to and during the Reagan era there were no bad kids. That it wasn't until the bleeding heart liberals came along that bad kids emerged because they can't be beaten for doing something wrong. I like to watch old shows on TMC. Every now and again they show these 15 minutes community service announcements that were made in the 50's and early 60's (long before the Reagan era) about mischevious teens and trouble makers and vandals. THERE HAVE ALWAYS BEEN TEENS THAT WILL CAUSE TROUBLE, VANDALIZE, DRINK ETC. We hear about it more these days becuase, unlike when we were growing up with only a view tv stations, THE MEDIA IS EVERYWHERE. News stories are viral within minutes of happening. They are blogged, tweeted, emailed, texted. I can hear about a farmer farting in the wind in Nebraska as quickly and readily as I hear about a car bombing in Afghanistan. These teens know this is wrong, they thought it was a prank. There so egocentric that they thought they would never get caught. They don't understand the value/price of what they've done because they have probably been handed everything and not had to work or contibute to their household. But it is not a political issue. I am not blind, it is you who are ignorant. Parents can "parent" no matter who is in office.
a resident of Another Pleasanton neighborhood

I agree with Swim Fan. This is no place for political reteric. Parents need to parent, and not in a way that is so prevalent in liberal households of handing there kids everything with the expectation that the govt will pay for it.
Now, because of the Obama administration's Imperiol Presidency, farmers in Nebrasky are more afraid of farting for fear they'll be taxed more for their polluting the environment just like the sweet smelling cow belches that liberals say are fouling our air. Also, we have a black man heading the "Justice" department and a half-black, half-white man as imperiol president in chief. That gives some kids, I wont mention any names, a false sense of security. Just like Swim Fan says, the car tire destroyers probrably thought they wouldn't get caught and if caught pay the penalty for the crime. Liberalism is permissiveness like in Dr. Spock. Most of us thanks to color tv and the internet now know parents shouldn't be influenced by someone with green ears.

We live at a time where the presidency is the most inept and corrupt in history. Never before have we seen such corruption. Then, too, we have Obama's operatives consorting with Columbian prostitutes who most likely are Russian agents. (Watch the lamestream media ignore this crucial fact.) Now we all know that the Marxist-Communist Obama has plans to put us all under Russian control if he gets another 4 years in office.
You just cant seperate the personal from the political. The nation destroying liberal parental practices have accelerated under Obama. It is impossible to speak of tire puncturings without talking about the rise of the Stalinesque state. Just brace yourself, Swim Fan and others, because radical terrorist guerilla bicyclists, under command from United Nations headquarters, will likely be puncturing your tires at the rate of two a month before not too much longer. Thank Obama for this mess he's gotten us into. And the unions.

The simple fact that my children are 1 & 3 years away from these "teens" leaves me less and less impressed with the parenting (or lack thereof)on behalf of their supposed parents. How in the name of all things holy do you allow your children to either be out of or not aware your children are not at home at that time in the morning? I'm further perplexed as to just what kind of upbringing or home life would result in these "youths" absolute lack of respect for other peoples property and total disregard for the hardship that they inflicted on the cars they vandalized.
It's a sad testament to the parents of these future residents of Santa Rita, Pelican Bay & maybe if they try reeeeeally hard, San Quentin. You ought to be so proud of your little 6th place participation trophy winning darlings, maybe they finally WILL make something of themselves on day?
