This Pleasanton kitchen is a 'Gujarati Kitchen'

All her children wanted for Christmas was her recipes so they could savor a taste of home while away at college, recalled Pleasanton resident and cookbook author Bhanu Hajratwala. That seemingly simple project grew and grew until last year her cookbook was published.

These are the best kinds of receipe books,One's that are made from the heart and will pass through generations.

I thought the article was good and would love to try some of the recipes/food. What the article failed to do was explain what Gujarati is...I still don't know...

Gujarat is a state in Western India and food from there is Gujarati food. Most of it is vegetarian stuff. Above article may talk of non-vegetarian since there may be milk products. Not all Gujarati food is sweet!

gujarati food is not always sweet, I agree with Amador resident, but compared to South Indian food its less spicy, but can be made spicy if needed.

Kathiawad in Gujarat has another variation of Gujarati food and it is really spicy! Some of the dishes are even spicier than some south Indian food. Most south indian food is not spicy!

It would be great if Mrs. Hajratwala teach some classes in Pleasanton. I am looking for a book which explains how to cook fresh food quickly !! I am Gujarati but making Gujarati food takes too much time.
