We just found out this horrible news. We are so saddened. David was such a terrific guy. I still see his smiling face and enthusiasm for life. He coached my daughter, Emily, in basketball and we so enjoyed his positive outlook on life. Driving by him in his open-air-truck, dressed for work, hair blowing in the breeze while I sat in my closed window mini-van with the heat on always made me smile and gave me a sense of freedom. I've known the Ryan's since birth. And even though we aren't as close with them as we should have been the whole time, this will be a huge loss on us. David was so enthusiastic and happy. Even from when I knew him, he played a big kid in my life. I loved having him around when I was younger. He's definitely going to be missed by so many people. This truly blows my mind. Him and his family are definitely in my thoughts, prayers, and even my smiles. Because there isn't one day I'm not reminded of them. David was a truly caring and giving person. He always had a smile and a good joke. Everyday there would be a joke on my email to bring a smile to my face from Dave. The Ryan Family Christmas letters were always fun to read and uplifting. David loved his family more than everything and was always talking about his wife and children. Dave always spoke up and was never afraid to say things that others wanted to say but didn't have the guts to say. I'm glad to have known him and I last saw him last Wednesday at the 100 Club dinner at Sunol. We spoke about his Dad and how much we have to hang onto every moment with our loved ones as we do not know when we might not see them again. God bless the Ryan family and give them strength....

It was with shock and disbelief that we received the news of David's death. I'm still waiting to hear that a mistake in identification was made. This just can't be.

David was definitely larger than life. We met him and his family 15 years ago and felt an immediate connection. He breathed life into everything he did. My family recalls a particular family dinner with them when, following a laughter filled meal our six kids headed out to the hottub, their dog in tow, for more fun. Their annual parties felt more like an opportunity for David to show how much he enjoyed and appreciated everyone. He made each person he knew feel unique and special. His enthusiasm was infectious.

We will all keep dear the vision of seeing David driving around town in his beloved topless truck, talking on the phone, curly locks blowing in the breeze, fully loving life.

Lynn, Trevor, Stone and Malia, we keep you in our hearts and prayers. May God hold you in his hands through this difficult time, and always.

David was a fixture in Pleasanton. I can picture him in his tevas and shorts at the Sports Park or driving his white Bronco. Our family met him through soccer and both my son and daughter have many fond memories of the swim parties at the Ryan house. This doesn't seem possible or true... I have been Dave's neighbor for several years and have enjoyed the warmth, laughter, and excitement he has brought on many occasions.

I just saw him last week as he was walking across his driveway and we said our usual hellos. Little did I know that was the last time I would see him again.

I want Lynn, Trevor, Stone, and Malia to know if they need anything at all-anything---please let us know. All of you are in our prayers. It is hard to know what to exactly say at a time like this, but our family gives you all our deepest condolences and we would like to be there for you all in any way needed.

About Dave, I'll miss our chats about his "Denver Broncos" and my "49ers". I'll miss the funny talks we had at the Ochoa's garage, the golf tournaments along the way, and seeing him around town in his convertible bronco. I didn’t know it was possible to wear Tevas on so many different occasions until I met Dave. I'll miss his laughter and love for life he shared.

Dave, you are truly missed and your memories will live on.

Oh my Gosh, I can't believe this....I have lived in Pleasanton years, remember him from sports when the kids were younger, and yes always saw him around town in his convertible white bronco, usually around Hopyard and Valley....About 6 months ago, he cut me off coming out of the gas station and I was mad and I went to pull up next to him and look over at him to give him "a look" and he turned at me, was on his phone, smiled and waved...well, all I could do was smile and wave back and feel like "so what if he cut me off".....i lost my iritation right there, just cause he smiled....I could hardly believe when I saw this on the weekly and had to share this.....

We only had the pleasure and honor to know David for a couple years but David is someone you never forget. Just having the opportunity to spend a few hours with David and you feel like you have known him your entire life. My heart goes out to his family.

I too share the visual of David in his bronco with the 'Ryan' license plate. He always gave me a wave as I was running around the neighborhood. What a tremendous loss. Susan just let me know about what happened to David. We are both in total shock. Our warmest thoughts and prayers go out to Lynn, Trevor, Stone and Malia. We came to know the Ryan’s through Soccer and Scouting. David was a coach for my son’s soccer team and Lynn was a Den Leader in Scouting. David’s coaching helped my son move from Upper House soccer to Class 1. We were very blessed to come to know the Ryan family.

The Blazer that you hear mentioned often sure did become David’s trademark. He was easy to spot around town. One day when he came to the house on soccer business he hopped out of the Blazer but forgot to put it in park. It inched towards the house and despite his best effort it rolled into the porch and broke a post. He said shaking his head “I guess I will be back tomorrow with a post and some paint.” And he was and we fixed it complete with fun and laughter because that is the way David did things. We will certainly miss you. May God be with you, David, and may he help Lynn, Trevor, Stone and Malia through this difficult time..

I still feel utter disbelief that David is gone. I still look around thinking that I may catch a glimpse of him. He was a class act. We will always remember the Ryan BBQs, the days on the Bay, the rounds at Spyglass, the sips of J.D., and so much more. I always kidded David, that he showed us the "good life". He will be missed and not forgotten.

The news of Dave's passing had the impact of losing a long time friend. In reality I only had the pleasure of knowing Dave for about six hours, just enough time to play a very memorable round of golf,have a meal, and appreciate his unbridled exuberance and passion for life.
We will miss the promised cruise on the bay and the man that made such a great impression in such a short time.

Little did we know the referral for our first financial advisor lived "just around the corner." We met David in about 1996. He was such a delight. Each Christmas, no matter what the hour, he brought the kids by to see the Christmas lights Bob had put up. His cut off truck was like his signature............I was always aware as it passed by .........with a big wave from David. I will continue to look for it...............and may even see it.........and I will always see David.........waving.............hello, or was it good-bye.

We only met David recently and were grateful to be his guest at the 100 Club Dinner last week. He was such a bright, humorous and generous person that was really dedicated to his community. I wish we had the opportunity to get to know him better but he made a great impression on us as he clearly did with everyone. We met David when our girls played soccer together a year ago. Few people in this world make such a favorable impression that is lasting, David was one of those rare individuals. His positive attitude and avid support from the sidelines was infectious, his cheerful personality brightened the day even when we were losing! I had spoken to him around 11pm that evening as we were planning to get together sometime over the weekend for dinner since he was in Colorado. I am just so sorry, he was the best friend a person could have, he was an incredibly supportive and loyal friend, I will miss him horribly.

Our friendship began many years ago in Colorado at Beaver Creek resort at a Smith Barney conference. We connected immediately because we both coached our kid's soccer teams and had a great love of our families and our communities...we have remained friends over the years although our lives went in different directions.

I first met David when asking him to help secure a sponsorship from Morgan Stanley.It was for our non-profit's fundraising event, CASA Golf Classic, to benefit abused and neglected children in Contra Costa County . He helped secure this sponsorship and others from Morgan Stanley while he was there.

Upon learning of David's death I was deeply saddened. He was such a great fellow and made you feel like a friend even if you had just met him. Those of us who knew David from the CASA events will always remember him having a great time, dancing with his wife, in his tux, with the red cummberbun and bow tie.

May God Bless your soul David and watch over and protect your wife and children.

As one of the people who was honored to be asked to speak at the service for Dave, I was happy, but not at all surprized, to see that the Church was full (and had people standing), all in honor of Dave and in support of his family.

Dave you will be sorely missed.Obviously by family but also by the many that you touched.You see,in 1988 David helped me to understand what it is to walk with God and be passionate for God.Without that I would not have a wife,I would not have a child,I would not be able to be substance free.I certainly wouldn't have the love and support of many around me nor know the zaniness that was David Ryan.Yes I jumped off the roof into the pool a few times.I will be eternally gratefull to Dave as well as his wife Lynn for their support in my life.

I just read the article on Honoring David Ryan. I knew the Ryan family from when I attended the SF Church of Christ and my son and I went on a family camping trip and I took a ride on David's boat. A very kind and loving family and I enjoyed the time I knew them at the church. My prayers go out to the family. May God's comfort and words heal your family during this time.

I last saw Dave at the 100 Club meeting and learned of his passing on the following Friday. He was a friend and most recently my financial advisor and had made plans to meed the following week. Just a couple days after his passing he had mailed me an application to join the Contra Costa County 100 Club. My prayers go out to his family and friends. I will truly miss him. He was a caring person.

When I think of Dave I think of the word "encouragment". That is what he and Lynn have always for me. Didnt matter what was going on in my life, the moment I saw Lynn and Dave I was instantly encouraged. My family met the Ryan's 15 yrs ago and our daughters were best of friends for many years. A special memory I have of Dave is when Lynn and I were sitting on the floor talking in the Ryan family room with Anna (my daughter) and Stone. Both were between the ages of 1 and 2 years old. For some reason Dave had camera in hand and caught the moment when Stone and Anna leaned in and kissed eached other right on the lips. Dave and Lynn always captured the special moments in life. Lynn, keep the encouragement alive that you and Dave shared with the world. I will always be your friend through anything and everything. I was deeply saddened to hear about the tragic loss of such a dear family friend. My heart goes out to Lynn, Trevor, Stone and Malia. David was such a entertaining and generous soul. May you find comfort in each other during this difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers our with the entire Ryan family. We just read the trajic news in the Weekly. Dave coached our son, Brodie Roberts, in soccer and he was a truly a wonderful coach, father, and friend.
