What do you mean not criminal arrests? Being here illegally is a crime hence being them called illegal aliens. And let's not forget how they get jobs, by using false SS numbers or fraudulent id's, which are both a crime and worst case identity theft and fraud. And most don't pay taxes or claim false with holding amounts and don't pay the correct taxes so another crime is tax evasion. Must be nice to break all sorts of laws and just get sent home, or released and told to leave at some more convenient time. The government is a joke on this, would they give us all this sweet treatment? Absolutely not! Call your local reps and tell them to start enforcing the law!

The biased media will not reveal the ugly truth? About the incessant murders, female and child violations, the drunken drivers and the carnage that goes on in every community within our borders. The unrestricted evidence about our open border and the pending Federal SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) and the new Presidents AMNESTY.
For the stark unsuppressed reality of the truth, about the illegal immigration invasion, that can only be found on the Internet. NUMBERSUSA, JUDICIAL WATCH, LIBERTY POST, IMMIGRATION NEWS INDEXER, UNIPAC and VDARE.

Check out this radical organization which is on many of our university campuses:
"MEChA"--Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan
"Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada."
"Everything for the race. Everything outside the race, nothing."
This organization preaches the reclamation of the US southwest on OUR college campuses under THEIR "first amendment rights". Unbelievable!!

I sure am glad to see ICE finally taking some action against the illegals and those who hire them. I only wish ICE would round up all the illegals that come out and protest, seems like an opportune time to get the paddy wagons filled with illegals and drive them back where they belong.

Do you notice how those who encourage the illegal aliens being here and working as modern day slaves, always call people who want our laws enforced xenophobic or Nazis. Their latest La Raza name is "Hate". It's hate this and hate that. Being called racist doesn't have the sting it once did, so the pro-illegal crowd had to come up with new buzz words, and "Hate" is their latest. You pro-illegal losers are doing just that, losing. Every day US citizens are waking up to the damage this invasion is doing, and letting their voices be heard and their writings be read. Today is a new day, and tomorrow the political correctness BS will be a thing of the past.

Time traveler,
I think you're wrong. The posters here calling out the xenophobes aren't saying the laws shouldn't be enforced. It is one thing to enforce laws and yet another to hate a group of people based upon misconceptions. Laws should be enforced. People shouldn't be demonized.

Xenophobes? Not liking illegal immigration is not the same as being fearful of foreigners.
My parents came to this country legally from Asia. I grew up around and have spent quiet a bit of time in lots of different households that came from many different countries.
My friends and I used to go out and hear comments like, "what is this, the United Nations?"
So here's a little secret from years of experience in behind closed doors talks, not liking illegal immigration is not just a white thing. People who came here from different parts of the world (including many Hispanics and, oh yes, many African-Americans!) don't care for the cheats!
The cheats would be the illegal immigrants and the people who hire them.
Don't get me wrong, if someone does specifically make derogatory comments about someone else's origin or race then that's obviously wrong, but let's not confuse the two issues.
Shelley- the white kids comment is racist and doesn't belong in this community forum.
'was born here- not even close my friend. You disrespect the true Nazi victims.

"SO GLAD THAT ALL THESE "ILLEGALS" WERE ROUNDED UP," (AND HOW) "THEY SHOULDNT BE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD....."
Very Well said, Muffin Head. You're absolutely right.
My father came to this country LEGALLY and had to wait patiently, fill out the legal papers, pay fees, be checked from head to toe for infectious diseases, etc. He showed respect for this country's laws and sovereignty and its right to pick and choose who entered here and who didn't and for how long they stayed.
That's how this country became the super power it was. People with no social morals, who would come here to suck off the systems in this country like parasites just weren't allowed to immigrate here. We were once one of the most highly educated people on the planet. But with the influx of these illegal aliens from third world countries, coming here in mobs, demanding to have their lives subsidized by American taxpayers, everything that Americans built has been steadily eroded down by these "(Comment deemed inappropriate by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff)" who use and use and then demand "more." They've become ungreatful, arrogant(Comment deemed inappropriate by Pleasanton Weekly Online staff)

I echo the sentiments from those who have had family who immigrated to this country LEGALLY.
My Mother is first generation American. Her siblings were born in England, separated from their father for months while he was here in the United States obtaining work and living quarters. In fact, he rented and cleaned two homes only to have the quota for immigrants from England filled and his family (my relatives) back in waiting status.
My relatives had to go through Ellis Island when they came here. Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor.... They were held and almost sent back to England because one of my Aunt's had a heart murmur. All this -- and doing it the right way -- legally.
I don't care where you are coming from -- just do it with proper paperwork and reasonable expectations.
But honestly, with all the "off-shoring" of jobs, why would anyone want to come here? Wait long enough and our jobs will come to your country. Made in America -- does that mean ANYTHING anymore?
a resident of Del Prado

If you knew what Mexico does with those that attempt to invade their country illegally, and contrast how the US does virtually nothing, you'd be amazed.
The Roman Empire fell when it lost control of it's borders, and we are NO different. When America's melting pot dies, so will our country, at least as we know it.

Gary -- why do you think they all want to come here? We're kinder to them then their own country nationals are. Heck, we're kinder to them than we are to many of our legal workers here.
Example -- ask your local phone service provider how many of their jobs are now outsourced to India, the Philippines, China, and Mexico. 2600 Camino Ramon sits half empty and those that do still occupy the building are largely "red badged" -- meaning their ID to enter the building is red versus blue -- indicating they are a contract resource.

Yes, let's arrest and deport people who are here doing jobs no one else wants and doing a damn good job of it. Like poster above, I hate to think what the burritos will taste like when they're made by our coddled teens who likely won't stay on the job more than a week anyway.
Illegal immigrants come to this country to work and send money back home to their families. The problem is politicians who think they need to be made citizens or given privileges they don't even really need or want.
Without political intervention we would get goods and services we otherwise couldn't afford and they get a chance to make some money to send home to improve their own lives. Let's not complicate the issue more than it needs to be. We need their labor.

Just what is it you all are so afraid of? They were making burritos; not selling drugs and doing driveby citizens. Seems it's the people here legally - even the homegrown folks - who do that. Put things in some perspective here.

Sheri - Perhaps we need to look a little closer at the parents who are raising the "coddled teens who likely won't stay on the job more than a week anyway."
Let us be clear here -- no one wants to keep workers from coming to this country to work, nor does anyone want to limit them from sending their earnings "home." We just ask that they do it LEGALLY.
One has to ask what the reluctance is to DOCUMENTING workers here in the United States?
I point you again to the post I made regarding 2600 Camino Ramon and the employer that owns that facility. As we outsource more work, and turn a blind eye to improperly documented workers filling other positions, how much do you really think you'll be able to afford when work starts to dry up from all angles for Americans?

I can't believe people deny the damage that the illegal population is doing? The drain on our schools and social services even the personal violation that my family is experiencing.
Why is it hateful to stand up to the crimes that are being committed, starting with Illegal residency.
I repeat:
The IRS told me I am not allowed to claim one of my children on my tax return because someone has stolen and is using his social security number. Unbelievably they are unable to resolve the issue so we must apply for a new SS# for my son. In the meantime I can not get the tax credit.
I am certain an immigrants here illegally is using my sons SS# on their I-9. That is how the illegals are able to work. It is a very common problem and just another way we are absorbing the burden of this problem.

Agreed. General news searches will surface this raid involved a total of 11 Taqueria El Balazo locations and netted 63 employees for being in the country illegally. One of those arrested was from Guatemala and the remaining were from Mexico.
And FYI -- the REAL news reports indicate some of the 63 had prior criminal convictions or deportations. Guess one could say they were robbing America blind from various angles.

The burden that illegal immigrants put on our social services is far greater than any benefit we get from their presence. If you look at maps that show the high rates of social problems they follow the boarder states and states with high immigrant populations.
Miami Florida is officially considered a Spanish-speaking city and anyone that does not speak Spanish is considered the burden. Spanish speakers will be the majority in Ca. within five years. While I speak Spanish I have been passed over for jobs because it is not my 1st language so I am not ‘culturally competent’.

We are very close friends with a Mexican family. Their son explained to us that they are taught in their schools that they have no responsibility to our laws because this land really belongs to them and they are merely reclaiming it. Hey all you strict border enforcement fanatics - have you ever considered how much a head of lettuce or a meal at a restaurant is going to cost if we truly crack down on immigration?
But who knows - those jobs picking lettuce, mowing lawns, and wrapping burritos might be all that is left after Bush gets done flushing our economy down the toilet by spending at least 1 TRILLION dollars (all borrowed by the way from "friends" like China..) in Iraq to protect us against weapons of mass destruction that never existed.

Illegals Create Large Net Costs...
The estimated fiscal cost of those illegal aliens to the federal, state and local governments was about $33 billion. This impact was partially offset by an estimated $12.6 billion in taxes paid to the federal, state and local governments, resulting in a net cost to the American taxpayer of about $20 billion every year.

I am sorry for the nightmare of identity-theft you have had to deal with. I hope you can resolve this situation easily with a new social security number for your son. I assume he is young and hasn't had to deal with any repercussions. But I have a feeling that it could continue because Social Security still "links" the two numbers. They say they have a "screen" that can only be viewed by certain agencies. But, if your son needs a security clearance in his later life, something could pop up. Let's hope NOT.

To First Gen, JBP1998, and Gatetree resident,
You are all so right!! This "illegal is okay" mentality is an insult to all the others who came here and registered LEGALLY. My grandparents were first generation Irish, and were registered in Ellis Island. Just like Gatetree said, if you were sick -- you were sent back.
To TC,
Your son's friend has told you what they learned about "US" in the Mexican schools. You should check out the organization "MEChA" who preaches the reclaimation of the southwestern United States on OUR college campuses.
MEChA is the voice behind the rallying on May 1st which started a couple of years ago. What an insult to the USA when they were waving Mexican flags! They are also behind the mentality that WE can't FORCE them to learn English. They preach it is THEIR RIGHT to demand services in SPANISH! How can they demand RIGHTS when they aren't even supposed to be in this country, in the first place?! They have confused what is "HUMAN RIGHTS" such as food and water, and twisted it into their "FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS".
Did you know that American employers and schools cannot insist that their employees/students speak English only while on the job/in school. I've been employed at jobs where it's obvious that the Spanish-speakers are "talking smack" about the Boss or other workers, and they delight in making others uncomfortable. They snicker that "I guess you'll have to learn Spanish to find out what we say". (The Asian population can be equally rude, in this manner.)
What the hell is going on? Whatever happened to being appreciative and grateful for the life you have HERE and acclimating yourself to the culture HERE? That doesn't mean we have to forget our roots! It's just respectful and good manners to behave appropriately.
Do you think if we went to another country they would have to provide translation for the English speakers? NOT!

57% of the unauthorized population in 2006 was from Mexico; 12% from El Salvador, Guatemala, Brazil, and Honduras; 10% from India, Korea, China, Vietnam, and the Philipines; while 21% were from all other countries.
As of 2006, California contained 24% of the total illegal alien population. Texas had 14%, Florida 8%, New York 5%, and Illinois 5%.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, California's governor and the bunch of sheep in city hall, who timidly follow without question. They all bow to the special interests groups, that run a monopoly in Los Angeles. They illegally strangled proposition 187, then added added the Sanctuary city ordinance (Special order 40). Its consequences has been the massacres by out-of-control street gangs, that threatens anybody who steps in their neighborhood. It killed a young black man, whose only crime was to be on their turf at the wrong time. 'Jamiels Law' should be enacted to protect innocent citizens and Chief of Police Bratton's Special Order 40 should be eradicated and leave the police enquire the status of anybody they question.
If California citizens demand their Democratic lawmakers co-author the pending federal SAVE ACT (H.R.4088) it will not only strengthen other state laws, but also remove the obnoxious stain from Los Angeles called a SANCTUARY CITY. Los Angeles and San Francisco city government needs a good cleaning and its putrefaction should be emptied down the gutter and washed away with the other waste.

I have to laugh at all the people who assume that, because the workers who were rounded up are of Mexican descent, the food at El Balazos is good. It isn't. It sucks. I used to eat there because it is close and I am lazy. But I got sick of stale food sold at ridiculously high prices by rude employees. Hell, at the prices they charge, one would think they were paying for legal labor. The owners certainly did not pass any cost savings to the customers. Like I said, I have to laugh. I feel badly for some of the people caught up in the raid (but not the rude woman who works at the San Ramon location). The owners, however, got what they deserve. LOL!

The blog has gone pretty far from the original topic. Following some of the logic to conclusion we could assume that with the abolishment of slavery, cotton would no longer be an affordable fabric. This arguement was used effectively for many years during slavery. So Cholo-do you like that the "illegals" at not paid a fair wage with benefits, can not vote or effectively communicate and have to rely on intrepretors (that may or may not have their best interest at heart) and are second class here like the slaves were. If the illegals were not here, we may have to pay more for goods and services, but the ecomony would find its level. You must own a landscaping business.

Wow, did you get it all in? Keep looking, one of the flash cards may have fallen under the bunk bed.
Might I remind you, the Berlin Wall was to keep people from leaving to the West from the Commie Lefty lifestyle. Essentially a prison wall against it's own citizens who wanted to leave the drab Commie Lefty dillusion.
BTW, Mexico has tighter immigration control than the U.S. They only want to get the minorities out of Mexico and to America to live off our social services and send billions back in remittances. It's just racism, elitism and business on their part. Mexico is the richest country in Latin America, they can do for their people if they wanted to. After your done being bothered in the American restaurant you should really go tell them what you think of THEIR policies and how it affected your day.
Don't believe the hype, welcome to America, the most welcoming nation on Earth. We take in more people than any other nation and still get spit on.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen so many ignorant, racist comments from people who thinks so highly of themselves. Please remember that at one point your ancestor immigrated to this country at one point or another. It's a shame to see anti-immigration sentimments when I have no doubts your family members who first came to the US received the same narrow-minded treatment when all they were looking for was an opprotunity. I could go into a long-winded story about how my parents came to the US illegally and went through the pain-staking process of obtaining their citizenship but it would land on deaf ears. Is the fact that we are here legally or illegally really the issue or is that an excuse? Would it make a difference if I said I am a law abiding citizen who was born here like anyone else? The sad reality is, when you see me or other latinos walking down the street, you may automatically pass judgement. You may be stereotyping when the truth is I may donate to the same charity as you, I may vote for the same presidential candidate as you and possibly see eye to eye on many social, ecomonic and environmental issues as you. Does that make me any less of a person because of your perception of me?
Admittingly so, I, too, am a culprit of stereotypes from time to time but I remind myself at the very core, we are all the same. We need air, water, food in order to survive. We have beating hearts, blood in our viens and a beautiful mind that is capable of amazing advances that extend throughout all generations/races. So please don't be so rude as to make vulgar remarks about a situation that can have devastating impacts to concerned parties. That's precisely why I disagree with illegal immigration. I know what my family had to go through to get here and of those that are still waiting to get in. Why should these cheats, yes cheats, jump ahead?

Here are some questions for you:
Should we be a country of laws?
What is it that attracts people to this country?
Should or shouldn't we have a controlled immigration policy?
Should any of the billions of persons on this planet be allowed to enter as they please?
Should these folks be self sufficient upon arrival?

Naw, not eating me up. No dillusions here. The wicked web has more than one weaver: Big business (hiding cheats)/US Chamber (smiling cheats)/Politicians (concerned looking cheats) doing what they can for an extra buck and extra voters (cheat sympathyzers) while pretending to have halos on their heads and caring for the poor illegal immigrants (low wage working cheats) and hardship of business compliance (e-verify). They are equally to blame.

Plutonian Resident, the point is not LEGAL immigration. The point is 40 million illegals HAVE ARRIVED and you and the US government can't control the southern border.
Nothing can stop the flow of immigrants because they are more determined to get here than the US government is concerned about keeping them out! What's your analysis? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
President Bush and his policies are behind the decline in the value of the dollar and the rise in gas prices. Tip of the day: filler up!

first gen,
Thank you for stating your opinion but you can't sit there and imply that there aren't rude statements throughout the posted comments. Although to your credit, it does go both ways.
I will answer you questions in the order in which they appear. You refer to illegal immigrants as "cheats"...fair enough but isn't that a bit hypocritical? I'm not accusing you or your family of being illegal immigrants by no means but you'd have my complete respect if you can look anyone in the eye and honestly say you've never cheated EVER in your life. It doesn't matter what you cheat in, a cheat is a cheat is a cheat. It doesn't make it right but don't we all try to justify our actions in one way or another?
Since your second question sort of relates to Pleasanton Resident question, I will answer both in one response. I will admit that I am a bit of an idealist so in my "worldly view of all things fair" (as I see it), I believe in a world with no borders because techincally, there are no "real" lines engraved in the earth that separates one state, country, nation from another. Both of you stated that the main point that I failed to see was the idea if illegal immigration and not anti-immgration sentiments. My question to both of you is, what is the difference...not in the literal sense but in your views/morals? In my opinion, I don't believe in strictly enforced protocol in order to travel/live in one area or another. Of course, I am not blind to all the horrible impacts one nation can have on another (i.e. genocide) But I question the integrity of these "national secruity" processes. Why should anyone endure the pain-staking process of acquiring the bare minimum in order to enter into this great country of opportunity? It even states in the Constitution of America all these loaded words about equality, rights, liberty and the persuit of happiness. What makes you think immigrants aren't looking for exactly that? I'd like to think that most people in American believe in the American dream and wish to contribute to this nation despite their race, social standings, or their current status in this country. I understand the need for rules and regulations...labels such legal and illegal but what about the human element? Don't forget that we are all people through and through. Why should we treat anyone differently? Like I said, we're all entitled to our opinions and I can appreciate/respect that. Thanks for commenting on my post.
PS: Pleasanton Resident,
Not that it matters either way to me, but when I write, "Employee", I mean it in the literal sense. I know the distinct difference and my badge is blue...not red. I hope that answer's your irrelevant question.

Unbelievable they are busted for being in this country illegally and they are complaining that they are being treated unfairly!! Do they think they have squatters rights?
"The chain's founding owner, Marino Sandoval, a Pleasanton resident, could not be reached for comment Monday. Many of his restaurants reopened over the weekend, while others remained closed after the raids.

I've heard that Texas (I think, could be another state so correct me if I'm wrong) want's to build a wall along the U.S boarder and Mexico's.

Too late, we've already built the wall. It's in San Diego and it works great!
Now we're just looking to apply it to wherever else the illegals want to cross. Keep in mind the wall isn't being built over the legal border crossings, those will remain open; so why wouldn't you want it to be built?

Wow!!! we seem to forget that California belongs to MEXICO. Who is illegal in this State? Of course, treaties and contracts mean nothing in the U.S., when we are the most powerful economy and military force in the world. But is this country happy? does this country have any friends today? Mexico is the only good friend for this country. Mexicans are the hardest working people in this country and they are not only your gardeners, dishwashers, babysitters and cooks etc.
We need to wake up, Mexicans are the people we need here. Get Mexican out of U.S and let your Muslim friends come in this community for them to clean your home, cook your meals and be your gardener and teach your kid something else.......? Lets hope Clinton, Obama or McCain realize how much influence and power Mexicans have today. All you ignorant SOBs, write in your testament that you witness the beginning of the end of an Era. Hey Joe, what do you know,
I don't think the illegals are just trying to get from one part of Mexico to what they believe is another part of Mexico. I think they're actually trying to get out of a Mexican economic system and come to an American economic system.
Let's say California had not been lost to the U.S. You don't think the Mexicans in California would be trying to get across the border to other parts of the U.S (as they obviously are doing). Come on now.
California belonged to Mexico for about a minute in a historical perspective but I don't think that's why the illegals are coming here and all across the nation.
You disrespect a lot of peoples from around the world that have come to America that are hard working and have made it great; it's not just Mexicans.
But, speaking of ignorance, I do encourage you to keep spitting out the rationale you do, as it just gets more and more Americans to hear your ethnocentric, American bashing garbage.

I must admit, I am very surprised at the anger and what looks to me to be hatred posted here. It is very hard for me to get upset about illegal immigration, because I don't believe that people are so different - we were just lucky enough to be born in a different place. But if it were me and my child, and I saw an opportunity for a better life for my child, I would take it. So, how can I feel anything but compassion for people wanting that same thing for their families? Just another way to look at it...

Pleasanton Mom,
So any means necessary, eh. The end justifies the means?
Isn't it hateful to let some folks cut in front of others?
How about some compassion for the id theft victims?
How about some compassion for the licensed contractors loosing bids?

But besides that, are you suggesting that immigrants are ones that generate id theft? I think you should check your statistics on that one. I'm pretty sure most of those are home grown. Contractors losing bids? Well, shouldn't you be attacking the business that makes money on exploiting underpaid people instead of the ones that are victimized? Pleasanton Mom,
" Well first gen, I just think you're full of hate. "
***Based on what?? If you could leave out the baseless personal attacks and stick to the issues, that would be appreciated.
" I hope that if you ever need compassion, you receive better than you give. "
***I've worked to raise money for the United Way, built homes for Habitat for Humanity, participate in an annual food drive, volunteered for non-profit projects, etc. So you can keep your false labels. Again, could we stick to the issues?
" But besides that, are you suggesting that immigrants are ones that generate id theft? I think you should check your statistics on that one. I'm pretty sure most of those are home grown. "
***How do you think illegals work? They steal social security numbers! Here's a link to just one example and if you insist I'll send a bunch more: Web Link
" Contractors losing bids? Well, shouldn't you be attacking the business that makes money on exploiting underpaid people instead of the ones that are victimized? "
*** The contractor looking to support his/her family, pay the mortgage, follow the rules, pay the business insurance, pay the licensing fees and then get undercut by illegals IS the victim. The businesses that hire illegals and the illegals are equally at fault, NEITHER of them are victims. I do believe in greater employer criminal penalties, civil penalties and enforcement.
" I take it first gen means you were here longer? Does that make you better because of the luck of your birth? I don't think so first gen. It was just luck. "
***First gen means I know what it took for my parents to LEGALY come to this country by following the rules and not cheating. First gen means my parents examples of honesty have taught me well. It is powerfull economic forces and demographic trends that draw the illegal imigrant.
Pleasanton is a microcosm of this phenonena: An older wealthy white population coupled with a demand for low wage service jobs. There are not enough locals to fill jobs as gardeners, food service workers, house cleaners and low skill construction workers.
Those that applaud the arrest of these unfortunate workers at "El Balazo" are the same ones who line up for the tacos and burritos. They probably have Mexican gardeners and house cleaners who provide high quality services at a reasnable cost.
Immigration laws should be relaxed to ensure a steady source of younger workers to add vibrancy to the economy. All one needs to do is look at Japan, another highly developed, industrialized country, with an aging population. They have been stuck at near zero growth for over a decade. Meanwhile, its service jobs go unfilled and the population is greying. In recent years the Japanese have begun to relax immigration laws. They need new immigrants. So do we.
We are fortunate to have a source of young workers to the south. They share our values of hard work and strong families. They are our future. I embrace them and encourage them to come north.

I would reiterate that unless you hold your elected officials accountable, they will make a mockery of the law.
Plutonians seem to be turning this string into a b_tch fest because they don't want any responsibility for the problem. Plutonians think that it's enough to vote. Well, with voting = responsibility. Mommie, are claiming to make sense?
ILLEGALS ARE IN THE US AND THEY PLAN TO STAY; unless citizens and elected officials do something about it. Since all you can do is snipe on a blog, then it's not likely much is gonna change. "Aqui estamos y no nos vamos..." And, they mean it...get the pic?
I like immigrants. I have no problems with people working for a living. But you gotta admit, first gen has a good point. I don't experience first gen as full of "hate". How come you do? Just because you disagree, doesn't mean that a person is full of hate. It must have been traumatic for you kids being raised by such a one point of view mom...traumatic for you kids!!!
Now mommie, put yourself in green pastures, surrounded with beautiful flowers and the song of birds; relax, dig it...But Wait, suddenly about 700,000 Haitians enter your scene and you wake up screaming to your worst nightmare....right?
Tee hee hee, tee hee hee...

Rick,
No more gardeners, food service workers, house cleaners and low skill construction workers without illegal immigration? Oh no, you're right! Why didn't I think of that. Now I remember that's what brought us the end of the cotton industry too. The cotton industry warned us that without slaves it would be the end of them. Now here we are with no cotton in the world!; right? Slaves where just hard working people who were a product of powerful economic forces and demographic trends, right Rick? We shouldn't have done away with the system, right Rick?
Our country takes in more LEGAL immigrants than any other country on the face of the planet; we are the opposite of Japan. Japan is a false comparison.
People who frequent certain restaurants are going there for, I don't no, maybe food. I don't think there going there to launch an investigation to figure out if the guy in the back might be an illegal alien. Are you saying that people who buy tacos and burritos are hypocrites? That just sounds strange.
Now is it just our friends to the south you support or can we bring in the rest of world? My relatives would love to jump ahead. Cholo warns you of the 700,000 Haitians but guess how many Chinese and Indians we can send illegally with your kind support (Here's a clue; it's a REALLY big number). Careful now, Pleasanton Mom will call you hateful if you say no.

If Cholo is your source of information, there is probably more of a problem than you think. If being sympathetic and compassionate instead of self-righteous and smug because of the luck of my birth makes me a bad person, than I guess I am. There you have it.

First Gen,
Fact: Because of low birth rates, the US population would decline without immigration. If you don't like the Japan comparison, try Germany, Sweden, or Russia and even China. Their economies will reach a crisis when their populations get old and are no longer productive. They will have to open up their borders as we have or become marginalized and their standard of living will decline.
Next time you are at in a restaurant, at Safeway or Downtown. Look around. Chances are, if you see a white person, they are older. The young tend to have darker skin and are probably first generation immigrants. They are the ones doing the work.
This is not a representative sample and there are exceptions, however, it does illustrate the trend.
The alternative would be to encourage higher birth rates in this country. Instead of 2 kids per family, we need to bump it up to 6. This is not likely.
This subject may be moot. Birth rates in Mexico are plummeting. Soon enough, there will be a dearth of Mexicans willing to make the perilous treck north. We will then look for other countries to fill our need for low cost workers.

These posts are better than the Sunday Funnies.
Some things to consider: 1) Republicrats and Demicans as official national Party policy want either the cheap labor or the eventual votes once amnesty is granted as Ronnie Raygun did in the 80s. Any lip service by those running for office to "do something" is political and economic fantasy. 2) Your house, food, clothing and current salary are all linked to the huge "underground economy" created by this workforce. We kick them out and everything costs 10-30% more in a matter of a few quarters (above an beyond our current rocketing inflation due in large part to turning good food into something you burn in your gas tank...) Also - your home price drops by 10%-20% as housing supply is added to the sytem - anybody want your house to depreciate more on you? ; 3) We should learn from how Mexico protects its southern border - machine guns, military enforcement and zero tolerance. 4) We should learn from Mexico how handle illegal aliens - no government support, no free health care, no free lunch, no free schooling. 5) We should learn from Mexico how to keep illegals from voting - you can only vote if you have a valid photo ID from the Government that is scanned at the voting booth in so you only get to vote once. No ID - no vote. 6) In case you haven't noticed - the US social security system is running out of money cuz the fat dumb and happy American public's birthrate is going the way of Germany and Japan - too few kids to work and pay for the retirees. We need increased Social Security taxes or that ponzee scheme falls apart. If we can't make them with birthrate - we need massive immigration.
Possible Solution? As a law abiding citizen who comes from a family of legal immigrants - it makes me sick to say it , but we will do amnesty at soon point. We don't have enough busses to ship everyone home as once. For those whitout a criminal record here or in Mexico and who work hard and pay taxes- provide documentation and allow them to keep working hard. They pay taxes, pay social security. For the lawbreakers - send them home. Secure the border like nearly every other county in the world.
No solutions are perfect easy or clean on this one as it has been allowed to run out of control for 40 years. The laws we have are not working. Selective and occassional enforcement during campaign season shouldn't fool anybody. This problem will not go away until we citizens put enough pressure on the politicos to really take action and stop playing games.

Pleasanton Mom: Enough with the cheap shots. I obviously didn't use Cholo as a source, just mentioning that whatever he was saying whether true of false, real or imagined is a small number compared to what could really be sent from China and India. You can’t dispute that.
I see you and Rick failed to answer the question of how many Chinese and Indian illegals you wouldn't mind having come in. It’s a big world; don’t shut the rest of us out. We could easily take care of any population crisis and generate plenty of income to cover social security issues. *** So I am introducing the question again. How many; or do you just favor our friend to the south? ***
For those of you engaging in this discussion and sticking to the issues, I do respect your positions; even if we disagree. To those that can’t stick to the issues; enough with the personal attacks and cheap shots. If you don't have anything to say about the issues, then you’re just wasting everybody's time.
***I do challenge any of you to finally answer the question though…

Since I appreciate Chinese and Indian people, I would say I could live with about 12 million from each group. I also appreciate Africans and Canadians. So, lets say another 12 million from those countries. But wait, there are the Arabs, the Turks, the Greeks and of course the people from the Canary Islands. Maybe, only 3 million from each of those groups and that should keep our economy floating for quite some time. When Israel nukes Iran, then maybe we can let in all the refugees who want to keep on living and working and raising loving families that can tolerate diversity of opinion. They'll be extra grateful so they will work harder, pay their taxes and eventually overcome any obstacles they might face from Plutonians.
Enough of this thread....too much nonsense from people with limited views!!!

Illegal aliens, underground economy, etc. are not a plus to our economy. They are a net COST to our economy in the billions.
Illegal aliens are not going to save social security; their low wages and greater demands to the system are going to make it worse. Social Security is a huge complex slow moving train wreck in the making that's not going to be solved by throwing a bunch of illegal aliens under it. That’ll just add to the pile up.

First of all El Balazo WAS EXPLOITING the people they had working there. They would bring them up from Mexico, put them up in a house and pay them UNDER THE TABLE thereby avoiding paying approriate taxes and insurance. Secondly, I know plenty of Pleasanton kids who would work at restaurants but teenagers like to work with people they can talk to!

person of sanity...spare me. I'll keep tabs re: Plutonian kids looking for summer jobs. I know that there are some jobs working in the fields outside of Bakersfield, CA. The jobs involved picking potatoes!, onions, and powdering corn. Minimum wage in hot weather. Are your kids still interested; if so, they'll have to relocate. The work is difficult and there is lots of pressure so you have to work fast. There is not lots of time for "talking". Incidentally, what do you suppose that your kids want to talk about? Alcohol & drugs?

If certain teens don't want to work certain low skilled jobs, the marketplace has other options:
" Recently, federal immigration agents arrested illegal workers at two large meat-processing companies. At one, they were replaced quickly by local African-Americans who lined up for the jobs. At the other, the jobs went immediately to legal immigrants. "

Re: Person Of Sanity - I believe that young people can communicate with illegals. Apart from the other issues raised on this thread, BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN COMMUNICATE WITH PEOPLE FROM OTHER CULTURES.
Apply for jobs, communicate as best you can with others who are limited English speaking illegals and prove that you can do it. DON'T ALLOW ADULT CYNICISM PUT YOU A POSITION OF NOT TRYING.
Eventually, there the problem of illegal immigration will be tackled by the US Congress. Start writing letters to your Reps & Senators. PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE THE LOAFERS AND POLICY WILL EVENTUALLY CHANGE AND NOT FOR THE WORSE.
