'Scary Larry' a winner in fair pumpkin-carving contest

Arlie Alford won Best of Show (Adult Class) in the pumpkin-carving contest at the 2021 Alameda County Fair last month for his original work, "Scary Larry." Alford told the Weekly, "I began exhibiting at the fair in 1961 when I was 10. I love our unique, exciting fair. Every year I learn something new. It's the best in the USA."
