BART board OKs program to put unarmed police 'ambassadors' on trains

Proposal aims to improve safety and security for passengers

In response to concerns about safety on the BART system, the transit agency's board voted unanimously last week to approve an ambassadorship program in which unarmed officers will ride trains from 2 p.m. to midnight seven days a week, with extra coverage on Saturdays.
