Classic rock show to honor Pleasanton heroes

Is there a hometown hero you think should be honored for contributions to the community? The rock ‘n’ roll experience, “Rock Stars & Stripes,” is bringing one special hero up on stage to celebrate his or her impact, at every performance across the country.

Hero nominations for the Pleasanton performance are due July 6. To nominate a hero, submit 250 words or fewer about why the person inspires you, along with a photo of the nominee to krista.white@cityofpleasantonca.gov using the subject line “Hometown Hero-(Nominee Name),” or call 931-4847.

The rock show will take place at Firehouse Arts Center at 8 p.m. Aug. 6-7, taking audiences on a rock ‘n’ roll road trip across the United States with a full-blown live concert celebration of the greatest American rock music of all time.

The concerts feature vocalist/guitarist David Victor, formerly of the multi-platinum band Boston, who decided it was time to celebrate America and the people who make the country great.

“When I was in Boston, the best way to know where we were was a piece of duct tape on the monitor that said the name of the city,” said Victor, who grew up in Walnut Creek and now lives in San Ramon. “We never really had time to get to know the people and their communities. With ‘Rock Stars & Stripes,’ we want to celebrate the people and their town, what makes them unique and special in America. And of course, we want to rock their world.”

Audiences will be treated to the hits of great American rockers including Aerosmith, Journey, Metallica, Foo Fighters, Santana, The Eagles, Grand Funk Railroad, Night Ranger, Billy Joel, Doobie Brothers, Boston, Styx, KISS and more.

While the hits are performed, a simultaneous video program will take fans to all the places across the United States where the great music was born. The show is a family-friendly, feel-good, full sensory, rock ‘n’ roll experience, according to organizers.

“Rock Stars & Stripes” also will support a local charity at each performance. A portion of the Aug. 6 show will benefit the Pleasanton Military Families Organization, which provides care, comfort and support to the families of military personnel who live in Pleasanton. Some of the proceeds from the Aug. 7 show will be donated to the Pleasanton Police Officers Charitable Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families, individuals and local charities in the Tri-Valley.
