Pleasanton school district leaders will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. tonight for parents and guardians of Hart Middle School students to discuss the qualities they’d like to see in the school’s next principal.

The district is looking for a new principal because current principal Terry Conde is scheduled to be reassigned after the school year for unspecified personnel reasons. Her reassignment was approved by the school board in closed session in February, and her new assignment hasn’t been announced.

District human relations staff will be on hand to tonight to collect information, which will be considered when applicants are interviewed, district spokesman Patrick Gannon said.

District officials will also meet with Hart teachers and staff separately to get their thoughts on the next school leader, which is a typical part of the principal selection process.

Conde is still working at Hart and will remain as principal for the rest of the school year.

  1. Not only Hart but HPMS will also be looking for a new principal this coming school year. My hope is that there is a real process in place. In the past PUSD puts in a retired principal as an interim to fill the void. I do have a problem with the practice of double dipping once you retire. This practice is alive and well at PUSD, as is the practice of hiring family. I have never seen so many husbands, wives, and children of employees work in one place. The nepotism in this district might be part of our problem. I hope we can break this cycle and bring in some new blood and rebuild our school district.

  2. Unspecified personnel reasons is code for run off by the teacher’s union and spineless school board. What we really need is a meeting to discuss how we can get a school board that doesn’t cave to every whine and whimper of the teacher’s union.

Good luck, Mrs. C. You were one of the best principals we’ve had in our 14-year PUSD career. Reasonable, staunch supporter of students, transparent and mighty resolve. So sad to see you pushed out. Huge loss to the students and community.

  3. Sad to see Mrs. Conde go. It is rare to meet a principal so committed to putting students first. See where that gets you in the PUSD? I have no doubt she will land on her feet. She is a moral, upstanding person with a heart of gold.
