Gov. Jerry Brown filed papers at the Alameda County Registrar of Voters office in Oakland Friday to run for an unprecedented fourth term as California’s leader.
Speaking to reporters outside the registrar’s office, Brown said, “This is my fourth time at this and I’m doing so with humility and the realization that there are great responsibilities in the work that lies ahead.”
Brown, who was accompanied by his wife, Anne Gust, said that if he gets re-elected to another term, his priorities will be keeping the state’s budget balanced, changing the way schools are funded and supervised and public safety.
In terms of the state’s finances, Brown said he will “act very prudently” in managing its money. “I’ll keep my eye on the ball.”
As for education, Brown said there will be a switch in July to a new system in which there is more local control over public schools and more local accountability for every school in the state.
In the area of public safety, the governor said he is continuing to work hard to implement the recent realignment system in which many inmates have been moved from state prisons to local jails.
Brown said it’s important that those who break the law “are dealt with firmly and intelligently.”
Asked why he’s running for office again, Brown, who will turn 76 in April, said, “I understand the complexity and diversity of California and I like to get up in the morning and go to work. I think I can make a contribution over the next four years.”
Brown even said this might not be the last time he runs for office.
Brown, who served as Oakland’s mayor for eight years, joked that he might run for mayor again, saying that he gathered petition signatures at Oakland City Hall on Thursday and talked to “a lot of old friends.”
Brown declined to comment on potential opponents in the governor’s race, noting that the filing deadline is not until next Friday and things could change by then.

He and the loons in the Legislature are going to ram the high-speed rail boondoggle and the twin tunnel boondoggle square up our posteriors. That, plus the billions he has robbed from the CalPers and CalSTRS pension funds, which taxpayers are on the hook to replace, will either bankrupt the state or send our taxes to unfathomable levels. Either way, those stuck with the bill will flee the state in droves, only to be replaced by poor immigrants (the wealthy immigrants won’t come). Californians are completely nuts if they re-elect Moonbeam.
Go Jerry! At least he won’t shut down the government or catch maids like the last nut. We will be better off in 4 more years!
The more immigrants the better. When we became American citizens we we sooooooooooooooooooooo way happy! We found a wonderful home in the USA!

California is no different than many other states that have large cities populated with sub-literates, and the takers in our society. The achievers (those that carry the tax burden for this huge group of victims), by shear numbers, just don’t have the number of votes to oust the likes of Brown, Obama and the rest of the socialist cadre. Here we have a president that has never had a bonafide job in his life, studied nothing but socialist practices, has no clue of monetary policy or finance: a person with embarrassing credentials for being president, and appoints people just like him to important policy positions. Again, elected by the non-achievers in our country, just like Brown. Brown did a hell of a job as mayor in Oakland, raising the murder rate to one of the highest in the country. His reward: Governor. Throughout the history of the world, when the takers outnumber the makers, society is headed downhill. Silicone valley is the only thread holding this state together. Very sad.
Perhaps we can now have a high speed train running along the coast, better views than inland.
Yep, Hotslide, it’s too bad the wealthy don’t provide more jobs for those who desperately need one; and it’s too bad the wealthy don’t pay more in taxes so that the state could employ more workers for state-financed projects — e.g., bridges, roads, RRs, forest brush clearing, and the like.
What’s most puzzling is how the wealthy manage to get sycophants like Backslide to do their bidding. Well, maybe not so puzzling. Add a little racism here, xenophobia there, and it all begins to make sense.
want more just doesn’t deal with reality very well. Rich AND disappearing middle-class pay far more Ca taxes then is justified. There is plenty of revenue to run the state well. Yes, that ‘pool’ of taxes collected should be going to BRIDGES,ROADS, and permanent improvements for ALL people to enjoy. Instead, that money is wrongly spread to selected individuals…NOT roads !!.
Ca is the easiest to live an entire lifetime on every form of public assistance. Not just school lunches, and free college (to targeted folks), housing, food, dental, skilled nursing, Disability, with duplications in every category..Many of those live better than the middle who foot the taxes, who have to make adjustments or do without in some of those same catagories for their own families…SO unjust. The state should not be acting as a ‘salvation army’ with public tax dollars intended for projects and state structures…..to be enjoyed by ALL.
And now, the costly burden that will cause our children huge deprivation to be able to finance into the distant future…PUBLIC union costs that will continue to grow exponentially through several generations. Wrong, evil, corrupt. It’s Jerry Brown’s gift to us that keeps on giving !!! Moonbeam started CA PUBLIC unions over 30 years ago. Those people have now been retiring at a rapid rate, at exorbitant sucking of all other state resources. In recent years, now that the horrific results are upon us, Jerry could have and should have FIXED this impossible mess, BUT, NO, he did not. It was his problem creation, and HE, and HE alone is the logical one that could have and should have cleaned up his own mess.
That corrupt and impossible burden alone, is reason enough to not vote to continue this irresponsibility. Shame on him to doing this to US. BUT……he is STill owned by these unions, just like he was before, and after all he’s in office because of them. You saw BART strike, so we all KNOW how sick, greedy, twisted, evil, these unions are. We, the taxpayers will just keep getting screwed….no chance of even standing erect again, as long as Jerry is still in office. He does NOT care about the over-burdened middle-income people, many of whom, no longer have jobs, or just temp or part-time jobs, trying to keep the family together.
This country is made up of immigrants and that’s the way it will remain…FOREVER!

Always yelling and blaming the left. Nothing else to do. Brown has done more for this state in the last four years than the previous idiot who got us into the mess we are in. What I think is pretty funny about anti-union and the other nut cakes is how, in one breath, they criticize Brown/Obama/AnyDemocrat for the high rate of unemployment, then in the next breath criticize freeloading entitlement groups for being too lazy to find work. Now, really, which one is it? Either or both I guess. Neither has intellectual backing; just scattershot ranting from an irrational, hate-based standpoint.
Just sayin You mean after Brown created destructive public unions in his first life, anything else had to be better. Of course the real destruction was by that nut Davis who intentionally screwed all Ca taxpayers forever with the impossible task of how to keep paying the exponential growth he built into their excesses…that’s why he was recalled, in case you have forgotten the permanent horrors he causes.

Victims, many professionals, who were former taxpayers, who have been unemployed several times due to companies and jobs that simply disappeared. But they are ignored, as their saving disappear. The other group never were taxpayers, but they’re the ones, I guess they’re called permanently ‘disadvantaged’, a nice euphemism. The doing very wells, and those on 42 different programs, both survive, it’s the silent middle majority and their kids, who are ignored and left to fend on their own
How silly, anti-union. Your distinctions are not found in unemployment figures — past taxes paid, motivations to work, opportunities to work, etc. These are only things you’ve dreamt up in order to feed your fear and hatred.
Regarding your “privileged” group of former taxpayers who’ve been laid off because companies have gone overseas, or found a way to have machines do their work, or found a way to have one employee do the work of 5. Guess they’ll need to ratchet down their unrealistic aspirations and compete for jobs at McDonalds, or maybe part-time bartending. Shouldn’t be too difficult, since, as you say, society is so full of lazybones, that McDonalds can hardly find work. This is just allowing the “free market” to exert its power. If your privileged professionals can’t find a job in fast-food sector, or some stinky beer joint, they probably deserved to have been laid off and left whining about society’s other victims.

Geez, folks, Gov Moonbeam may have not been a perfect elected official but look at this reality: he got elected and you didn’t. He learned from his mistakes, and you apparently did not. He’s amassed support from the solid middle and, well, you are on the fringe and you are not elected…
Grow up, and move on. Mr. Brown did.
