The Foundation for Axis Community Health will sponsor “A Day at the Races” from noon to 6 p.m. today at the Alameda County Fair.

Tickets to the event are $50 each and include admission to the fair, a catered buffet luncheon, a “Best Hat” contest, prize drawings, a lesson on placing bets and, best of all, an afternoon of enjoying horseracing.

“We invite our friends, neighbors and all Axis supporters to join us for an afternoon of fun at the fairgrounds,” said Becky Yeffa, Axis foundation board president.

All proceeds will benefit Axis Community Health, which provides a safety net for thousands i the Tri-Valley who are without adequate health insurance and in need of medical care, mental health services or substance abuse counseling.

Founded in 1972 as a licensed nonprofit organization, Axis serves 14,000 community members annually through direct services and school- and community-based education, prevention and treatment programs. The agency operates three facilities in Pleasanton and two in Livermore and is supported by local, state and federal funding, foundation grants, client revenues and community donations.
