A man who died in a crash off of Interstate Highway 580 in Livermore on Thursday afternoon has been identified by the Alameda County coroner’s bureau as 54-year-old James Carter, a resident of Brighton, Colorado.

The crash was reported at 2:21 p.m. Thursday off of westbound Highway 580 near the off-ramp to Isabel Avenue.

A black Pontiac left the road, went through a fence and hit a tree, California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Tyler Hahn said. Carter was ejected from the vehicle and died.

The crash remains under investigation by the CHP.
