The Pleasanton Chamber Board of Directors has officially canceled the annual Golf Outing and the Trade Show Mixer events due to concerns of COVID-19 and the economic impacts of the pandemic.

“The safety of our members, business, and community is our top priority,” said Pleasanton Chamber President Steve Van Dorn in a statement. “The chamber is currently focused on the overall health of our members and the recovery of the Pleasanton business community.”

Originally on Aug. 7 at Callippe Golf Course, the Golf Outing tournament has served as the chamber’s main fundraiser for several years. In the past, the event has attracted 115 golfers and countless sponsors.

The Trade Show Mixer was scheduled on May 13 at The Club at Ruby Hill and a second one Nov. 4 at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. These events, in the past, have attracted more than 200 people with around 40 vendors. The spring event was postponed with the intention of being held in the summer; however, the continued spread of COVID-19 made this unattainable.

After taking into consideration Alameda County’s health guidelines that include social distancing and limited attendance, the chamber has decided to cancel both events.

According to the chamber, individuals who registered and paid for any canceled events will be contacted.

While many residents are eager to attend events, Susie Weiss, the Events and Communications Manager for the Chamber, said the county health guidelines as well as limited financial resources and a reduced workforce, both the golf tournament and the trade show mixer would face its share of challenges.

“These are challenges that we know would have had an impact on the participation of these events,” she said.
