Ecologically-minded locals looking to landscape are invited to a free “water-wise gardening” workshop in Dublin this weekend.

The workshop will be held jointly by water service provider the Dublin San Ramon Services District and Zone 7 Water Agency, which serves as a water wholesaler for large parts of the Tri-Valley. Its main goal is to instruct attendees in how to landscape while still conserving water.

The workshop will be held Saturday from 2-4 p.m. in the Community Room of the Dublin Library, 200 Civic Plaza. The deadline to sign up has passed, but DSRSD customers interested in attending can email blevins@dsrsd.com or call 875-2294 to check on any availability.

If space allows, those outside the district’s service area may be permitted to attend.

At the event, representatives from Armstrong Garden Center will present on gardening with drought-tolerant plants and experts from landscape architecture business EcoFolia Design will teach participants about sheet mulching and other irrigation methods.

Participants who RSVP will be entered into a drawing for a copy of East Bay Municipal Utility District’s “Plants and Landscapes for Summer-Dry Climates” and drought-tolerant plants from the Armstrong Garden Center, and will receive a giveaway bag, which includes a low-flow garden hose nozzle.

DSRSD acts as a water retailer for Dublin residents and the Dougherty Valley portion of San Ramon, while wholesaler Zone 7 serves providers in Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore and San Ramon’s Dougherty Valley along with providing flood protection in the Livermore and Amador valleys.
