Police: Man arrested after driving in circles on Sports Park fields

'Large portions of turf' damaged, city to seek restitution, sergeant says

Pleasanton police arrested a Castro Valley man early Tuesday morning after they allege he damaged turf at Ken Mercer Sports Park by driving around on the wet sports fields in a pickup truck.

Imran Meskienyar, 21, was booked into the Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of felony vandalism, and the city of Pleasanton plans to seek restitution for the cost to repair the damaged grass, according to Pleasanton police Sgt. Brandon Stocking.

Police responded to the Sports Park at 5800 Parkside Drive around 1 a.m. Tuesday after a resident called to report a pickup driving through the park, Stocking said.

Arriving officers spotted a dark truck driving in circles on the sports fields, and after apparently noticing the police, the driver turned off the pickup's headlights and briefly tried to flee the area, according to Stocking.

Officers quickly caught up to the truck, at which point the driver -- later identified as Meskienyar -- decided to yield, the sergeant said.

"Large portions of the turf in the Pleasanton Sports Park were found to have been damaged by Meskienyar driving his pickup recklessly on the wet grass," Stocking said. The full cost of the damage hasn't been determined.

Stocking credited the resident who called police to report the suspicious activity at the Sports Park – which, like other Pleasanton city parks, are closed to the public after dusk unless it is lit for a sanctioned event.

"This is a great example of proactive community members and the police working together to maintain the safety and quality of life enjoyed in Pleasanton," he added.

Kudos to PPD for the fast response. We need thugs like these behind bars.

"We need thugs like these behind bars." - NO WE DON'T. We need thugs like this to spend 100s of hours doing community service, like fixing the turf and working all day cleaning the park

Googled the name and it appears that he's a biotech student at UC Davis who maybe decided to get a little wild during winter break. He should have stayed with doing something like TPing someone's house. A Felony Vandalism conviction is not going to look good when he's out looking for a job after graduation.

I guess there wasn't anything that he could destroy in his town so he gave us the once over! Give this punk a dull pick and shovel and have him clean up his mess then throw him in the slammer with a cell mate that will appreciate his talents!! Thanks PPD good job once again, don't let this clown off with a slap on the wrist please.

I would say for felony vandalism, a good 5 days in jail followed by community service would be justified. I agree with everyone.

Police should come up Via de Los Cerros & hide somewhere!! We have had loads of cars doing this outside my house on the cross roads!! By the time I get to the front door to video them, they stop & zoom up the streets!! Getting fed up with it.. it's normally been late at night, like 10-12, but last week we had a light tan computed car doing it at about 5-6pm!! I missed the make & number plate.

Great news.
I wonder if this is the same guy who did donuts on the field at Bernal Park last year around the same time?
Anyway, I hope they make him pay for all the damage -either a lump sum or garnish his wages - till all the sod he wrecked is back to normal.
What a lowlife....

There may be some consideration here that maybe this is a hate crime.
