Hayward caregiver, 25, arrested in fatal Castro Valley shooting

2nd homicide in Castro Valley in a week

A 25-year-old Hayward man has been arrested on suspicion of murder for the fatal shooting of another man in the unincorporated Alameda County

community of Castro Valley on Sunday morning.

Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly said Ryan Gutierrez was arrested after a shooting at a home in the 2500 block of Denning Court shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday, where deputies found a man dead in

the home's garage.

Authorities aren't yet releasing the victim's name.

Jail records indicate that Gutierrez works as a caregiver and was arrested early Monday in San Leandro.

Kelly said the homicide was the second in Castro Valley in a week, which he said is "extremely rare" because there aren't usually many homicides

in Castro Valley.

He said the two homicides aren't related.
