Suspect in custody identified in connection with Pleasanton store robbery last week

Threatened employees at 2 Verizon stores with pepper spray before fleeing with merchandise

A 16 year old Oakland youth currently being held at the San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall has been identified by Pleasanton police as the suspect in the robbery July 30 of the Verizon store at 6070 Johnson Drive.

The youth, whose name is being withheld by police, was arrested last Thursday by Stockton police in connection with the robbery of a Verizon store in that city. In both robberies, a canister of pepper spray was brandished at employees.

In the Pleasanton incident, the suspect entered the store and grabbed several cell phones from their display mounts. He then grabbed a couple of Apple iPads.

As the suspect was approached by store employees, he threatened them with pepper spray. The suspect then fled the store on foot carrying the phones and iPads in his arms.

Pleasanton Police Detective Brandon Stocking said detectives interviewed the juvenile at the San Joaquin County Juvenile Hall Friday. Once he is released by San Joaquin officers, he will be transported to Alameda County where he will be charged with one felony count of armed robbery.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Pleasanton Police Department at 925-931-5100.
