Pleasanton high school clubs will come together tonight for a fundraising gala to raise money for UNICEF.
The Pleasanton UNICEF Gala will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road.
The student-run event is aiming to bring in 600 people, a significant increase from prior years' attendances of about 100 people, UNICEF club publicist and Amador Valley student Pooja Kumar said. She said several student clubs have been working after school for about five months to get ready for the gala.
"We've been preparing for a long time," she said. "We've had this gala for about five to six years, and it's been successful in the past, and we're trying to make it really big this year."
Amador Valley and Foothill students will present Bollywood dances, an improv performance, a kung fu act and other entertainment to raise money for the international children's relief nonprofit UNICEF. Students from Dougherty Valley High School will also perform.
Amador Valley's drumline, Foothill's dance team, Amador Valley's choir and Amador Valley's orchestra have planned performances for the gala.
Tickets are $10 at the door, and all proceeds will go to UNICEF and Amador Valley's Cancer Society club.
