Pleasanton police swear in Merced native as new officer

Officer Ricky Barcelo will start on patrol after training

Pleasanton Police Department inducted a new officer into its ranks this week.

Ricky Barcelo was sworn in as an officer at a department ceremony Wednesday.

Raised in Merced, Barcelo graduated from Golden Valley High School and is working on a degree in criminal justice from Merced College.

He previously worked as a Merced County deputy sheriff from 2013 to 2016 before getting hired at Pleasanton's police department.

He fills a department space created when an officer retired in 2015. After a 16-week field training process, he will be assigned as a solo patrol officer.
