AVHS cheer team competes in Southern California

Team heads to California Open this weekend

Amador Valley High cheer team took its school spirit to the Regional USA competition in Yorba Linda in Orange County last month, finishing fourth in its division.

This was the first time since 2012 the team competed in a regional competition in Southern California, Amador Valley parent Amy Fulmer said. The team placed fourth in the intermediate competition, going up against Whittier, Cypress, Schurr, California and Yorba Linda high schools.

The 12 girls and coach Danielle Butler flew to the competitions with funds they raised during the season.

The team will compete next at the California Open cheer competition by United Spirit Association at UC Davis this Sunday.
