The Foothill varsity girls’ basketball team took third place at the West Coast Jamboree in the highly competitive Zircon division during the week of Dec. 28.

The Falcons started with a 59-40 win over Montgomery-Santa Rosa. It was a stellar defensive effort in the second half that keyed the win.

Leading the way on offense was sophomore guard Madison Baxter with 16 points. Caroline McMorrow contributed nine points and 20 rebounds.

In the second round, the Falcons faced a tough team in Central East out of Fresno, dropping a hard-fought 50-41 final. Baxter had 14 points, followed by McMorrow with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sophia Brown chipped in with six points, five rebounds and outstanding defense.

In the third place game, Foothill took out Monterey Trail of Elk Grove, 62-50. Baxter led the way with 24 points, followed by McMorrow’s 10-point, 11-rebound effort.

For their outstanding performances, McMorrow and Brown were named all-tournament players.

Amador Valley vs. Foothill

For those who love the Amador vs. Foothill rivalries, and who doesn’t, here are the dates for the regular season contests.

In boys’ basketball, the Dons and the Falcons meet on Jan. 26 at Foothill and then Feb. 19 at Amador. Game time for the varsity contests is 7 p.m.

On the girls’ side of the basketball ledger, the games are set for Jan. 26 at Amador, with the rematch set for Feb. 18 at Foothill. Once again, the varsity is set for 7 p.m. starts.

Those willing to bundle up and head out to watch some great soccer action can catch the boys’ teams Jan. 19 at Foothill and Feb. 11 at Amador. The varsity games are set for 6 p.m. starts.

In the always intense games between the girls, Amador will host the Jan. 19 game and the Falcons play host on. Feb. 11. Games are all set for 6 p.m. starts.

Finally, the dual match between two of the most consistent wrestling programs in the area sees Amador play host to Foothill on Feb. 16. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start.
