Applications open for Juanita Haugen scholarship awards

Program honors long time school board member, education leader

Applications are now open for $1,000 scholarships to be awarded in November in the name of Juanita Haugen, a long-time Pleasanton school board member and nationally-recognized education leader who died in 2007.

The scholarships recognize students who have a strong record of civic engagement and have demonstrated exceptional character by role modeling the Community of Character traits of Compassion, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Self-Discipline.

All high school seniors in Pleasanton are eligible to apply for the scholarships.

A scholarship will be presented to a student in each of Pleasanton's three high schools: Foothill, Amador Valley and Village.

Applications and guidelines are available online at www.CommunityofCharacter.org/

The deadline to apply is Nov. 9, with selections to be made will later that month
