Tri-Valley Cougars shine at Special Olympics event

 

The Tri-Valley Cougars golf team brought home five medals from the Special Olympics regional competition held Aug. 31 at The Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose.

Winning gold medals were Brandon Garcia, Joshua Layman, Lauren Lenigan and Bruce Louwaert. Adam Pinney earned a silver medal during the event.

Garcia also received a "Grand Champion" ribbon for the overall achievement award, most improved skills.

All participating athletes received ribbons for placing in the local inter-team competition, with Kenny Schlegel in first, Lenigan in second and Layman in third. All of the other athletes who completed the skills event were presented with "Excellent" or "Outstanding" awards.

The team is coached by Edward Strickland.
