The registration deadline is today for those interested in participating in this season's Pleasanton Youth Basketball league, which is open to boys and girls in first through 12th grades.
The program is open to Pleasanton residents only.
Participants will get the chance to improve their basketball skills, make new friends and learn what it means to be part of a team, city officials said in a statement. Players of all skill levels are invited to participate.
The registration fee is $135 and includes a jersey, practice time and league participation. Practices begin the week of Nov. 2, and games are played Saturdays from Dec. 5 to Feb. 27.
City officials are also recruiting volunteer coaches for the program. Interested people need to complete a volunteer application and pass a Department of Justice screening.
No prior coach experience required, and the city will host coaching clinics and provide support as needed. Head coaches' children will play for free this year -- registration fee refunded at season's end.
Youth sports referees are also needed, with no prior experience required and training to be offered. Apply to be a game official at www.cityofpleasantonca.gov.
