Las Positas College's new 'President's' program starts today

Series of special events to include lectures, art, concerts

An art exhibit by Claudio Jimenez Quispe will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Las Positas College, launching a new program by college president Barry Russell to feature prominent artists, musicians and speakers.

Sponsored by the Las Positas College Foundation, the program has the name "President's Speaker Series," although not all of the presentations will feature speakers.

"It is my goal, and that of the LPC Foundation to bring high-level speakers, artists and performers to the college to engage with our students and the Tri-Valley community," Russell said. "In response to our growing number of Hispanic students, we are delighted to focus this inaugural series on Hispanic Heritage and the arts."

From September through November, three distinguished individuals will be featured. The guest line-up in addition to the exhibit by Claudio Jimenez Quispe includes:

Oct. 1 - At 11 a.m., art lecture by Gregorio Luke, entitled "Frida Kahlo: A New Look." At 7 p.m., Luke will talk about "Diego Rivera: The Man and His Murals."

Nov. 10 - Concert by Gustavo Romero, pianist, at 7 p.m.
