Amador grad suits up for US Lacrosse

Jackie Gilbert joins national team for U19 championships in Scotland

Pleasanton native Jackie Gilbert is in Scotland this week as part of the United States women's under-19 national team competing in the Federation of International Lacrosse U19 World Championships.

The 18-year-old Gilbert, who graduated from Amador Valley High last month and will play for the University of Southern California starting this fall, is the only Californian on the national team roster. She is a leading defender for the U.S.

Gilbert is coming off an accolade-filled senior season, which saw her earn East Bay Athletic League MVP honors locally and being named nationally as a US Lacrosse All-American, an Under Armour All-American and USA Today Second-Team All-American.

Team USA is scheduled to open its world championships against Canada in pool play today. They're set to play Wales tomorrow and Australia and Israel this weekend.

The quarterfinal round is set for next Wednesday, with the semifinals to follow the next day and the gold medal match on Aug. 1.
