Downtown Livermore fireworks show starts at 9:30 p.m. tonight

Fireworks to be set off in 'low level' show from top of Railroad Avenue parking garage

A "low level" fireworks show will be held starting at 9:30 p.m. tonight from atop the downtown Livermore parking garage on Railroad Avenue.

Those wanting to view the show should congregate on Railroad Avenue between South Livermore Ave and South "L" Street and on Maple Street between Railroad Avenue and Third Street, all roadways to be closed to traffic for the event.

The public will be allowed to bring chairs and set them up on the closed roadways.

Those wanting to view the fireworks from other than these prime viewing locations, should select a location within a few blocks of the parking garage, within visibility of the top of the parking garage.

Livermore police will close several streets starting at 6 p.m. and about midnight in the downtown area, including First Street between Old First and South "L" streets, Railroad Avenue between Maple and South "L" streets, Maple Street between Third Street and Railroad Avenue, and South Livermore Avenue between Third and Chestnut streets.

The parking garage also will be closed during these hours. Motorists can park in the garage prior to 6 p.m., but will not be able to move their vehicles out of the garage until about midnight.

Police warn that downtown Livermore traffic will be very congested traffic tonight. They suggest that the public walk to the downtown area or use public transportation.

Police remind the public that consumption of alcohol and possession of open containers of alcohol are not allowed in Livermore. Also, all fireworks are illegal in the city of Livermore. including so-called "Safe and Sane" type fireworks that are legal to purchase in Dublin and some other Bay Are cities.

The Livermore Police Department will have extra officers on duty today looking for alcohol and fireworks violations.
