'Ladies Day at the Races' to mark 24th year today

Annual event open to racing aficionados, first time bettors

Kay Huff will hold her 24th annual "Ladies Day at the Races" starting at 12:30 p.m. today in Section F in the Alameda County Fair grandstand.

For Huff, who started assembling women interested in attending the races in 1992, it's a fun day, entertaining and also educational. Each year, a few women join the group for the first time to try their hand on betting on a few of the horses, with most usually coming back the following year.

"All of us have a great time," Huff said.

At the event, everyone joins in the obligatory photos with Kay sharing her growing and updated album of photos from earlier years. Along with the album portrait, the ladies also pose holding a copy of the Pleasanton Weekly for a traditional photo this newspaper publishes after each event.

To join the group and for more information, contact Huff at kathleenhuff@gmail.com/
