San Ramon Regional, John Muir to start work on new health center in Pleasanton today

Pleasanton Outpatient Center will offer wide range of medical services at Owens Drive location

San Ramon Regional Medical Center and John Muir Health will hold a ceremony at noon today to mark the start of major renovations of a building at 5860 Owens Drive in Pleasanton where their new jointly-operated Pleasanton Outpatient Center will be located.

The center is expected to open in later this year.

Development of the outpatient center is part of a partnership between Tenet Healthcare, parent company of the San Ramon center, and John Muir.

The new Pleasanton Outpatient Center will expand care, access, and services for patients in the Tri-Valley area and surrounding communities.

It will offer a range of services under one roof, including primary care and specialty physicians. An Urgent Care Center, lab, pharmacy, education/conference facilities and an imaging center with MRI and CT scan services also will be part of the new center.

The design and services in the Pleasanton center will be similar to John Muir's recently-opened Walnut Creek outpatient center.

John Muir Health, based in Walnut Creek, is a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients in Contra Costa, eastern Alameda and southern Solano Counties. It includes a network of more than 1,000 primary care and specialty physicians, more than 5,500 employees, medical centers in Concord and Walnut Creek, including Contra Costa County's only trauma center, and a Behavioral Health Center.

Besides San Ramon Medical, John Muir Health has partnerships with UCSF Medical Center and Stanford Children's Health. For more information, visit

San Ramon Regional Medical Center is a 123-bed, acute-care hospital with 24-hour emergency care, inpatient and outpatient services. It holds the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for certification as a primary stroke center, serving as a stroke receiving hospital for Contra Costa County. For more information, visit

The opening of the new San Ramon Regional/John Muir Health Pleasanton Outpatient Center comes just two weeks after Stanford Health Care acquired ValleyCare Health System and its Pleasanton medical center.

A special ceremony heralding that merger will be held from 4-6 p.m. June 9 at the Pleasanton hospital, located at 5555 W. Las Positas Blvd.
