Pleasanton man dies at Grand Canyon

Khushalbai F. Patel, 82, collapses near visitor center

An 82-year-old Pleasanton man died May 24 after collapsing near the Grand Canyon National Park visitor center.

National Park Service authorities said the man, identified as Khushalbai F. Patel, was found unconscious by a bystander near the park's visitor center.

When park rangers and paramedics arrived, another visitors was administering CPR and an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) was also in use. Ongoing efforts to resuscitate Mr. Patel, who was visiting Grand Canyon with his family, were unsuccessful.

An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner.
