4 Bay Area post offices to offer late hours today, Tax Day

But no extended hours for late tax filers in Tri-Valley

With more and more tax filers preparing and filing income tax returns online, Pleasanton's postoffice and all others in the Bay-Valley postal district will operate on a normal schedule today, Tax Day.

The Postal Service is reminding customers to plan ahead and mail early and also to be sure to check the latest collection times posted on collection boxes.

Also, postal officials urge taxpayers to ensure that proper postage is affixed their tax returns.

The first ounce (about three sheets of paper) on a letter-sized envelope is 49-cents. The first ounce on a larger flat-sized envelope (bigger than 6 1/8 inches X 11 1/2 inches) is 98-cents. Additional ounces are 21-cents each for both size mail pieces.

Four Bay Area postal centers will have special hours on today. They are:

Oakland Main Post office

1675 7th Street

8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.


1300 Evans Ave., STE 30

Counter service: 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Curbside drop off from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

San Jose Main Post Office

1750 Lundy Avenue

8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

San Franciso International Airport Center-Finance

660 W. Field Road

Curbside drop off from 4 p.m. to 12


Counter service: 11 a.m. to 12 midnight
