Pleasanton man arrested in vehicle theft

Arrest made after brief pursuit on San Ramon Valley Boulevard

Danville police officers arrested a Pleasanton man after a brief car chase Sunday evening, said Danville Lt. Allan Shields.

Around 10 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on San Ramon Valley Boulevard near Midland Drive on a white Acura .

Shields said as the officer approached the vehicle on foot, it sped away southbound on San Ramon Valley Boulevard.

The officer initiated a pursuit, which was terminated after the vehicle allegedly went into the opposing lanes of traffic.

The vehicle was found abandoned a short time later in a San Ramon business park, according to police reports.

A vehicle check determined the car had been reported stolen out of Pleasanton, said Shields.

San Ramon police officers located a man nearby, later identified as Eric Ballesteros of Pleasanton.

Ballesteros, 27, was arrested on suspicion of a possessing a stolen vehicle, eluding police by driving in the opposite lane of traffic, and violating probation. He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility where he is being held without bail.
